A SUPREME COURT RECAP AND ANOTHER DANGEROUS JUDICIAL NOMINEE

The imperial presidency won at the Supreme Court yesterday, and regular Americans lost. While Trump took some defeats that will gall him (the justices refused to review his appeal of the civil judgment that he defamed and sexually assaulted E. Jean Carroll, block mail-in ballots that arrive after Election Day from being counted or remove a member of the Federal Reserve board without cause), the Supreme Court also dramatically expanded his power, allowing him to fire the heads of federal agencies intended to be independent. As now former Federal Trade Commission member Rebecca Slaughter warned, they’ve made it “possible for presidents to fire watchdogs who won’t put politics over principle, and replace them with lap dogs. It’s a recipe for corruption; working families will pay the price.”

Today will be the final day of opinions, and we’ll finally get opinions on trans kids in sports, campaign finance laws and whether Trump can end birthright citizenship by executive orders. While we’re waiting, we can turn out attention to the White House’s efforts to fill the lower courts with more dangerous reactionaries.

We could see at any time now a Senate vote to confirm Benjamin Flowers to a lifetime appointment on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. A Federalist Society extremist, Flowers has compared gender-affirming care to the eugenics movement, defended abortion bans subjecting doctors to felony charges, downplayed Trump’s role in January 6th and backed rejecting 150 years of precedent upholding birthright citizenship. 🗣️ Let’s reach out to our senators and urge them to say no – we can find call scripts and an email tool via our friends at the Americans of Conscience Checklist here. 🗣️

DATA CENTER RESISTANCE UNSEATS A STATE SENATE PRESIDENT

If our electeds had any doubt about the power of the data center resistance, last Tuesday’s primaries in Utah should clear it right up. Republican voters voted out two incumbent county commissioners in Box Elder County, both of whom cleared the way for multi-millionaire investor Kevin O’Leary to foist a massive hyperscale data center project on their community. Even more noticeably, GOPers also unseated Stuart Adams, the longest-serving president of the Utah State Senate in its history and one of the state’s most powerful politicians, in favor of a challenger who called him out for ignoring the public’s concerns about “the Stratos project.”

The lesson, in plain language: stop the tech bros, or we’ll replace you with someone who will.

ARE THEY WITH BIG TECH DOLLARS OR US?

HUNGER STRIKES AT ADELANTO, DELANEY HALL COME TO AN END

In the face of retaliatory mass transfers, expedited deportations, solitary confinement, lockdowns, tear gassings and canceled visitations, activists on the ground are reporting that ICE captives at Adelanto and Delaney Hall have made a strategic decision to bring their hunger strikes to an end for now. Both went on for more than a month, and the Jersey strikers in particular managed to push the extreme medical neglect, lack of access to clean food and water, physical and sexual abuse and denial of due process for folks held in the concentration camps back into the national conversation. They also secured the release of pregnant women and several other vulnerable detainees in Newark.

The fight will go on, and right now we need to make sure the regime is still hearing us as they seek to punish those who led these efforts.

Martin Soto, who was an organizer in Delaney Hall and was transferred to Elizabeth, New Jersey for his and his wife Gabriela’s speaking out, has reportedly lost more than 50 pounds in detention. Gabriela is an American citizen currently pregnant with their third child, and he was arrested buying diapers for their 11-month-old. His lawyers have filed a petition for his emergency release. ✍🏿 We can sign this request from Cosecha to increase the public pressure for Martin’s freedom, and contribute to support his legal fight here. ✍🏻

Kyron Shakeel Swaso, a refugee from Belize who helped pull people together in Adelanto strikes, was ultimately deported to break the strikes. He is now faced with the prospect of rebuilding his life. 💵 The Shut Down Adelanto coalition is encouraging us to donate via Cashapp or Zelle to help him do so via Cashapp or Zelle at 678-517-4788. 💵

Finally, these will not be the last of our friends and neighbors to turn to hunger strikes as a tactic behind the barbed wire. ⚙️ La Resistencia in Washington State have prepared a guide on how to support strikes inside detention centers based on their experience doing so since 2014,
and Make The Road States has put together a terrific action toolkit on how we can organize in our communities against corporate collaborators and our local concentration camps and proposed human warehouses we can put to use. ⚙️

CORY MILLS DOES NOT BELONG IN PUBLIC OFFICE

The Florida Seventh Congressional District’s representative Cory Mills does not belong in Congress.

He may well be the first-ever member of the U.S. House of Representatives to serve with an active restraining order against him, granted by a judge after an ex-girlfriend accused him of threatening her with violence and revenge porn. She broke up with him after he was accused of domestic abuse by a different girlfriend, for which he avoided arrest thanks to the intervention of then-U.S. attorney Ed Martin – and was married to still another woman at the same time, He’s been accused of obtaining a Bronze Star through stolen valor, multiple violations of campaign finance laws and making arms deals with both the federal government and foreign countries while a member of Congress.

In a functional political system, he would have been forced out a long time ago. But it looks like it’s going to be up to the voting public. Mills is likely to face off against Bale Dalton, a Navy captain and former NASA chief of staff, in November, and between his rap sheet and an R+5 district this race could be within reach. 🗣️ Dalton has just launched weekly Thursday phonebanks from 5:30-7PM ET – let’s sign up for a shift and help run one of DC’s worst out of office. 🗣️

TAKE PRIDE IN PRIDE, 12 MONTHS A YEAR

Today marks the last day of Pride Month 2026. But not to belabor the obvious, LGBTQ+ people need and deserve more than a month of acknowledgement of their joy and accomplishments, of their continued struggle for equality and respect and acceptance. This is not an easy time in America for this community. Here are some easy and accessible things we can do to boost our friends and loved ones.

Offer Our Pronouns With Pride!

When we proactively offer our pronouns, we create space for others to use theirs, normalizing the idea that they shouldn’t be assumed. We can:

Add them to our email signatures
Add them to our nametags
Add them when introducing ourselves
Add them to our zoom ID

Watch and Read With Pride!

Streaming and reading LGBTQIA+ content encourages creators and authors, helps them monetize their work on platforms like YouTube and tells publishers, libraries and services like Hulu and Netflix that yes, there is demand for them. It’s especially important at a moment when the FCC is trying to stigmatize and silence them.

Here’s some suggestions of recommended LGBTQIA shows+ and movies for us – and remember, we can stream and borrow more than we watch and read!

And here’s reading lists of children’s books from EveryQueer, teen/young adult books from Queer in the World, and of books for adults from Queerty.

Advocate with Pride!

There’s a ton of great advocacy organizations trying to combat prejudice, end political oppression and offer support to LGBTQ+ folks and their families, here and internationally. Let’s get connected with and get action alerts from:

If we’re able, there are lots of organizations doing great work that could use our support. Charity Navigator is a good place to look for reviews for who can be trusted to make the best use of donations with the least waste (for LGBTQIA+ causes and everything else!).

Boosting LGBTQIA+ content on social media, both letting people know about challenges that need to be addressed and good news, helps keep the LGBTQIA+ community into the conversation even when the reactionaries are trying to keep them out.
