SUPPORT THOSE ARRESTED FOR DIRECT ACTION AT ICE SPY CENTER
Last week, 13 activists were arrested after a non-violent direct action at ICEās National Criminal Analysis and Targeting Center at White Cap Business Park in Williston, Vermont. (Folks may have seen the viral video of their protest.) This facility is at the heart of ICEās surveillance efforts, helping spy on social media and identify ātargetsā for deportation, and our friends were attempting to block the entrances and stop employees from entering the building for their workday. Chittenden County Stateās Attorney Sarah George has dropped similar charges in the past and we anticipate she will do so again, but there are more ways we can support the folks putting themselves on the line to disrupt these operations.
š£ļø The local Food Not Bombs chapter has been encouraging us to contact the business parkās property manager, Norman Stanislas, at 802-316-6017 and norm@njsrealestate.com, to demand he end the collaboration and cancel ICEās lease. Letās add our voices to the call! We can find language to use here. š£ļø
ZACH NUNN STRIKES A TRACKER AND MORE REPUBLICANS WHOSE BEHAVIOR DISQUALIFIES THEM FROM OFFICE
Add Iowa congressman Zach Nunn to the list of Republicans who canāt figure out how to keep their hands to themselves.
Nunn claimed it was a āmythā his vote for Medicaid cuts in the MAGA murder budget would close down rural hospitals ā now two of his stateās medical facilities have closed their doors and five more are cutting staff and services. Confronted by a political tracker about this last week, this member of the U.S. House of Representatives chose to strike them and knock the camera out of their hands.
Undermining his own constituentsā health care is reason enough to want Nunn gone, but this adds more disqualifiers to his resume. Heās in a tough reelection fight with Democratic challenger state senator Sarah Trone Garriott, a Lutheran minister and former advocate for sexual assault victims. āļø We can join phonebanks to help Sarah unseat him on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-9:30PM ET here. āļø
Far more disturbing are the allegations against North Carolina congressman Chuck Edwards, currently under an Ethics Committee investigation over accusations of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment. There have been reports he had an affair with a then-staffer, in direct violation of House rules, and that he singled out two young, female staffers for inappropriate attention. Heās being challenged for reelection by fourth-generation Western North Carolina farmer Jamie Ager. āļøļø We can support Jamie during regular phonebanks on Tuesdays and an additional shift tomorrow night from 5-7PM ET here. āļø
Rep. Rob Bresnahanās story is a more typical one of hypocrisy and corruption. Having run in 2024 on a congressional stock trading ban, he quickly established himself as one of the most prolific stock traders in Congress, with more than 600 in his first year in office, including dumping shares in Medicaid providers shortly before voting to slash Medicaid. Itās still something he should be held accountable for. āļø We can join Rep. Jamie Raskinās Democracy Summer Action Board in making calls for his challenger, Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti, this Thursday from 6-8PM ET here. āļøļø
Finally, operations are underway to hold accountable Rep. Tom Kean of New Jersey, who disappeared from Congress and public view for nearly four months earlier this year. While Kean is now back at work and has revealed that he sought treatment for depression, he has been unapologetic for his long absence and total lack of transparency. And while his condition is serious and deserves empathy, itās hard to ignore that Kean skipped work at full pay, the sort of paid sick leave he has steadfastly opposed for his constituents. āļø Former helicopter pilot and working mom Rebecca Bennett now has phonebanks going in her effort to defeat him on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays ā letās join her campaign! āļø

SUPPORT LOCAL ACTIVISTS RALLYING AGAINST COLLABORATION WITH ICE IN MIAMI
Advocates for immigrants are raising pressure on city officials in Miami to exit their 287(g) agreement allowing local police to carry out immigration enforcement actions on behalf of the federal government. They should be well positioned to succeed ā they enrolled last June after a 3-2 vote in favor among the city commission, and have since elected another commissioner who has expressed openness to ending the agreement along with Mayor Eileen Higgins, a critic of the decision. TOMORROW at 6:00PM ET, the ACLU of Florida is holding a phonebank, reaching out to constituents to urge them to call Mayor Higgins and their reps on the city commission to demand action. āļø Letās sign up to join them in driving folks to speak up against collaboration with the deportation machine here. āļø
HELP FOLKS ELIMINATE WARRANTS WITH BLACK VOTERS MATTER
The folks at Black Voters Matter go beyond regular electoral work in their efforts to build Black political power. Theyāre also striving to stop the overcriminalization of their community and build civic engagement in the process. Key to this effort are their regular warrant clinics, community-led grassroots programs in which their volunteers help folks eliminate warrants from misdemeanor offenses and traffic violations. š«±š»āš«²šæ Theyāre training new folks in this work TOMORROW at 6PM ET. If weāre interested, we can sign up here ā and if we canāt make it, we can reserve a spot in future orientations in September and October. š«±š¾āš«²š¼
