VOTER SUPPRESSING “SAVE ACT” IS ON TO THE SENATE
H.R. 22, the “SAVE Act,” is the GOP’s latest attempt to rig our elections by disenfranchising voters. It requires voters registering or changing their registration information to provide ID that many of us do not have, and forces them to present that ID in person. It could lock the voting booth against 69 million women who have changed their name after marriage, all overseas voters and almost 1 in 10 American citizens who don’t easily have access to proof of citizenship documents – including almost 4 million citizens who don’t have proof of citizenship documents at all. Similar restrictions in Kansas denied 30,000 people from registering to vote, and the state admitted almost all of them were indeed citizens.
Unfortunately, on Thursday it made it through the House on a 220-208 vote (with 216 Republicans and Democrats Ed Case, Henry Cuellar, Jared Golden and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez in favor). It will need 60 votes to get through a filibuster in the Senate, so we should be able to stop it, if we put in the work. Let’s call our senators and tell them to vote no – and let our representatives know how we feel about their vote. SPEND TAX DAY PROTESTING WITH SOCIAL SECURITY WORKS
The Trump-Musk attack on Social Security, which has included mass firings and office closures, has led to jammed phone lines, long wait times at the remaining field offices, overwhelmed staff and a website on the verge of collapse. Workers have described it as “complete, utter chaos” threatening to send the Social Security Administration into a “death spiral.” And it’s set to get worse – we’re anticipating even deeper staff cuts soon along with risky technological changes. In the meantime, they’re attempting to shift public communications to Twitter and using the system as a weapon against immigrants.
But our advocacy has gotten some results, with Musk’s henchmen backing off their plans to scrap many services offered by phone. So for Tax Day tomorrow, we’re taking the fight to them! Social Security Works has called for a mass mobilization, asking Americans to hold rallies at their nearest field offices to say Hands Off Social Security! We can find events near us here, along with info on how to host our own, printable signs and flyers! Let’s join or start a rally in our area tomorrow!

ALARMING STEP FORWARD IN MUSK’S ADMINISTRATIVE COUP
With Musk’s destruction and obnoxiousness driving away more and more public support, the Trump Administration has tried to downplay his role and claim he’ll be out of the way soon. In reality, the forces of the administrative coup are gaining ground and Musk is seizing massive new power for himself and his henchmen. We learned on Friday that DOGE employees have taken control of the website that notifies the public about potential federal grants and lets organizations apply for them. They can now delay and block proposed grant opportunities if they choose, holding up or stopping billions of dollars in programs and services.
This needs to stop. Let’s reach out to our members of Congress and demand they take action against the unelected billionaire’s power grab – and use all procedural weapons available to hold up action on Capitol Hill until DOGE is deleted. We can work off of the base scripts here and cite these specific powers for our elected officials here. We can also bolster our calls with this new tool from the Center for American Progress that tracks DOGE funding cuts by congressional district, city and state, so we can tell our politicians and our neighbors exactly how much damage Musk’s minions are doing. ANOTHER ASSAULT ON THE ENVIRONMENT: LOGGING NATIONAL FORESTS
Trump’s Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins is inventing a fake emergency to bypass normal process and environmental protections and open up almost 60% of our national forests to logging – more than 112 million acres. The emergency they claim is wildfires – and their supposed solution is getting rid of trees. This follows a Trump executive order to expand timber production and their appointment of logging industry lobbyist Tom Schultz as director of the US Forestry Service.
This giveaway to industry is catastrophic for the animals that live in those national forests, will worsen global warming, and to top it off will do nothing to help with wildfires. Let’s reach out to our reps and ask them to condemn and do everything they can to pause and hopefully prevent this environmental destruction for profit. DONATE TO IMMIGRATION BOND FUNDS
In one of many of the horrendous immigration arrest stories, a mother who is sole provider to her daughter with cancer has been released on bail after spending several weeks at the Otay Mesa Detention Center. Her story is instructive of an important and simple way we can do help – many people stay in ICE detention simply because they do not have funds to pay bail. Groups like the Freedom for Immigrants Bond Fund, Families Reunidas, RAICES, and many others help get detained people out of jail. We can support one of these organizations, or check this directory for an organization that helps other immigrants in our community. We can also circulate this information about requesting bail as part of letting immigrants in our communities Know Your Rights.

We need a “SHAVE” Act to remove republicans from the voter roles . Everyone knows they are space aliens and are here only to destroy the most prosperous democracy protecting the planet. Republicans need to present in person their Intergalactic quickening certificate to prove they were ‘born’ in the USA on Earth. No substitutes accepted, in person, and within an acceptable life cycle date range, i.e., no dead republicans.
