WILL THE U.S. “WALK AWAY” FROM UKRAINE?
The Trump Administration is once again making ominous threats against our allies in Ukraine. Right now they are demanding Kyiv accept a peace deal that would give Russia much of what they’ve sought in this war, including accepting the seizure of Crimea as permanent and freezing the battle lines deep into Ukrainian territory. Trump publicly raged against President Zelensky when he pointed out this would violate their national constitution, and Trump, Vice-President Vance and Secretary of State Rubio have suggested the White House will “walk away” from the process if they cannot secure an agreement soon… without explaining what that means for our backing the war effort. They have cut off aid to Ukraine before, and there’s serious concern they’ll do so again.
Let’s reach out to our members of Congress and remind them even if the White House has changed sides in this war, the American people haven’t, and they need to vote for and insist on continued support for Ukraine. SAY NO WAY TO RFK’S AUTISM REGISTRY
From the very beginning, autistic people feared what Robert F. Kennedy Jr. would do with more power – as journalist Eric Garcia put it, Kennedy “sees autism and therefore autistic people as problems to be solved [instead of] having a disability that deserves to be accepted.” Their concerns have borne out, with Kennedy using his position as Secretary of Health and Human Services to continue to push the lie that autism is caused by vaccines (it isn’t), dismissal of studies on autism by the CDC, and his anti-scientific and insulting comments on those with autism. response in defense of the unconditional value of our humanity, regardless of our productivity.) Now he has set off a whole new set of alarm bells, as we’ve learned his new “study” of autism is amassing our private medical records and planning to launch a registry to track Americans with autism.This is a massive violation of our privacy, and scary as hell, recalling some of the darkest chapters of the history of eugenics both in America and in Nazi Germany. Let’s reach out to our members of Congress and demand they make every effort to block an “autism registry,” including barring any federal funds from being used to create or maintain it. Let’s also see if we live in one of the seven U.S. states with a similar registry, and ask our legislators and governors to eliminate it if so. And let’s contact our health insurers, pharmacies, and the folks gathering data from our smartwatches and fitness trackers to ask what they’re doing to protect our health information from the federal government.
EVEN TRUMP KNOWS TARIFFS ARE “UNSUSTAINABLE” - SENATE VOTE SOON
The Dow Jones is headed for its worst April since 1932 – not just the Great Depression, but the last time the U.S. pushed a catastrophic tariff program. Investors aren’t turning to government bonds or the U.S. dollar, either, as they lose confidence in the American economy. The CEOs of Walmart, Target and Home Deport are warning they’ll have skyrocketing prices and empty shelves soon.
The only reason we might avoid setting records? Trump is suddenly making noises about deals to climb down from his trade war – deals that, if they come soon, will be light on substance and results.
Americans are worried about their economic future, and the administration seems to change direction on their tariff plan every time we turn around. The chaos is making it impossible for businesses, workers and consumers to plan for the future. And all of it is completely self-inflicted damage.
Congress can stop this, if they choose. And they’ll soon get another chance to be heard – Senator Ron Wyden’s resolution to block Trump’s 10%-across-the-board import tax hike (S.J.Res. 49) is set to get a floor vote as soon as next week.
Let’s contact our senators and let them know they need to vote yes on this measure and end the trade war before Trump sends us straight into a recession. And let’s let our House members know we want to see action there, as well, no matter how much Mike Johnson tries to stop them. We can use scripts and language from here.
OUR NEXT STEP: DIVEST FROM TESLA
The Tesla Takedown movement is having an impact. On Tuesday we learned Tesla’s quarterly earnings are down 71% from this time last year, revenue is down 9% and sales have slipped 13%. We are successfully making Elon Musk’s brands toxic, and he claims he is planning to drop his government work down to “a day or two a week.”
Now we’re taking it to the next level. Today at 8:30PM Eastern Tesla Takedown organizers are holding a kick off call for a new campaign to encourage cities and states opposed to Musk’s illegal takeover of the federal government to divest – getting pension funds to sell off Tesla stocks and stop doing business with Musk businesses. Let’s register to join the call and learn how we can keep our tax dollars from Elon here. We can also sign up to help lead a team pushing for a city council resolution to divest from Tesla here, and a toolkit for passing that resolution here. PHONEBANKING FOR FEDERAL WORKER UNIONS (via )
As part of his campaign against federal workers, Trump has heavily targeted their unions, including stripping collective bargaining rights from two-thirds of the federal workforce. Organized labor is leading the fight to save public services, and they need our support! The American Federation of Government Employees has been prevented from deducting dues from its 330,000 members, threatening their ability to function. They are working to get everyone enrolled in an e-dues system. 100,000 people are already on board, but they have a long way to go. Let’s join them in phonebanking to reach these federal workers and get them to stay in the union!
