🚨 TRUMP SHOWS US LIFE AFTER FEMA – AND IT’S A DISASTER 🚨
We’re starting to see an alarming pattern of Trump withholding Federal Emergency Management Agency funding from places that clearly need support.
The people of North Carolina are still dealing with devastation from Hurricane Helene, but the federal government has decided to suspend recovery funding. Washington State has been denied emergency relief needed for repairs after a bomb cyclone. Even in deep-red Arkansas, Governor and former Trump press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders had a request for assistance turned down after severe tornado damage and is being forced to beg for help. And all this from an administration that has promised to eliminate FEMA. We’re getting a preview of life without it, and it's creating a lot of unnecessary pain.
And where is the money Trump is “saving” by abandoning communities hurt by natural disasters going to go? Toward more planned tax cuts for billionaires, a bloated military budget, and to feed the ICE detention machine, despite its continued arrests of legal residents and disregard of due process. That’s their idea of “efficiency.”

🏠 SAVE THE EMERGENCY HOUSING VOUCHERS PROGRAM 🏠
Initiated under President Biden to provide housing assistance to “individuals and families who are homeless, at-risk of homelessness, fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking, or were recently homeless or have a high risk of housing instability,” the Emergency Housing Vouchers program is running out of money. Unless Congress acts, some 60,000 Americans will lose their rental assistance and risk eviction. 📞 Let’s tell our Members of Congress that the end of Emergency Housing Vouchers “would be among the largest one-time losses of rental assistance in the US” and that those who have rebuilt their lives through it are at risk of being tossed back onto the street or into abusive relationships, and we want them to sponsor legislation that will continue and fully fund this vital program. 🏳️⚧️ TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS 🏳️⚧️
Yet another blow from the Trump Administration’s proposed Health and Human Services budget – along with programs like Head Start and energy bill assistance, they are planning to eliminate services for LGBTQ youth who call the national suicide hotline 988. This is one of many actions the MAGA right is taking to punish and isolate this marginalized community of kids. And increasingly, they are openly ripping the “protect the kids” mask off and targeting care and legal rights for trans adults, too. Girls’ sports bans were just the camel’s nose under the tent, and the threat is growing. So too must our support for trans people. Here’s a few ways we can show solidarity:
💲Donate to Trans Lifeline, a peer support network for trans people that runs a crisis hotline of their own which will be all the more important if Trump’s budget passes
💲Donate to the Trans Continental Pipeline, which helps trans people relocate from unsafe communities in the United States to Colorado, where they have more legal protection
💲Donate to one of these trans-led mutual aid funds, which provide direct support to trans folks in need
💲Donate to fund Distribute Aide’s harm reduction toolkits, which provide medical equipment for trans people taking injection-based gender affirming hormone therapy
🤝 Connect with one of these LGBTQIA+ organizations in our community
🧪 STAND UP FOR SCIENCE’S SUMMER SENDOFFS 🧪
The Trump Administration is continuing to devastate American science and universities with funding cuts, mass firings, lawsuits, attempts to limit what can and can’t be studied, and efforts to silence dissenting voices. The scientific community is getting organized. Stand Up for Science is calling for another round of protests at universities nationwide, where school leaders, faculty, staff and students come together on the last day of classes to defend academic freedom and open inquiry. These events are getting rolling this week. ✊ Let’s check out the site here to see if there’s one on a campus near us we can attend and support – and if there’s not and we’re part of a university community, let’s considering hosting one using this guide.
🪧 30 LONELY BUT BEAUTIFUL ACTIONS – NOT-SO-STEALTHY ACTIVISM (H/T The White Pages) 🪧
We’re continuing to highlight a series of actions from Barnraisers Project founder
on small ways to stay grounded and serve others – helping everyone find something to fit our comfort level. Last time out we covered stealthy activism methods. Now, we’re reviewing methods to make some noise, even on our own:DO A STANDOUT. We can go to a federal building (especially a Social Security office), or a Tesla dealership, or just stand on a highway overpass and hold a lonely cardboard sign for an hour. We take a picture, send it to everybody we know, and post it on social media. We want others to know that somebody is out there, that they too can be out there. We can tell our friends that it felt inconsequential and awkward but that we’ll be back there next week, at the same time, and that we’d love it if they could join us. (And we can bring some QR-coded flyers with action steps to activate anyone who approaches us when we’re there!)

Environmentalists are planning for a global day of action this fall. The first ever “Sun Day” will be held September 20th and 21st, a celebration and a chance to send the message that it’s getting cheaper and easier to meet our needs for clean energy.
will join other environmental leaders and Grammy-nominated singer Antonique Smith at the Old North Church in Boston at 6:30PM tomorrow for a multifaith service and the lighting of a green lantern – because the new Paul Reveres are warning that climate change is coming.
