LAST NIGHT OF THE CONVENTION!
Today marks the fourth and final day of the Democratic National Convention! We can find the official schedule here and watch through the DNC's own feed here. Vice President Harris will accept the convention's nomination for president. While we watch, let's be sure to check out volunteer opportunities with the Democrats and sign up here!
LIKE MICHELLE SAID: DO SOMETHING!
We’ve heard it from plenty of speakers at the DNC, but Michelle Obama said it best: when the Republicans lie, when we get bad polls, when the dread creeps in, do something! And the Harris-Walz campaign has rolled out a new tool to help us take action, a one-stop shop to locate events and opportunities near us and give us more resources to spread the message. Let’s check it out at go.kamalaharris.com and do the work! (h/t
)ANOTHER STATE PUTS ABORTION ON THE BALLOT
The Montana Secretary of State’s office on Tuesday certified that an initiative to put the right to an abortion in their state constitution will be on the ballot in November. This is a deep red state where we are unlikely to have an opportunity to take similar action through the legislative process, and higher turnout could benefit Senator Jon Tester’s reelection campaign. We can donate to and volunteer with Montanans Securing Reproductive Rights to do our part in this fight, or help in other states with:· ARIZONA: Arizona for Abortion Access
· COLORADO: Coloradans for Protecting Reproductive Freedom
· FLORIDA: Floridians Protecting Freedom
· MARYLAND: Freedom in Reproduction Maryland
· MISSOURI: Missourians for Constitutional Freedom
· NEVADA: Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom
· NEW YORK: Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Action Fund
· SOUTH DAKOTA: Dakotans for Health
PHONEBANKING FOR NIGHT OWLS
Ever find yourself up late stewing about today’s news? It may be too late to call folks on the Atlantic coast, but still prime time to reach voters in some crucial states. The Massachusetts Dems will be holding phonebanks on Mondays from 9:00PM-11:00PM ET to connect with Nevadans and Arizonans. For the night owls on the East Coast and everyone across the country with availability, let’s sign up here.
RIDES TO THE POLLS
The organization RideShare2Vote Aware seeks volunteers in AZ, CO, FL, GA, KY, NV, NC, OH, PA, TN, TX, VA, and WI to help voters who need rides to the polls. Let’s check out their volunteer page and consider signing up. If we need a ride and we live in these states, let’s consider reserving a ride. And let’s explore their website to learn other ways to be involved.
SUPPORTING THE NEXT GENERATION OF CANDIDATES
If you’ve been watching the convention and are excited by all the young, talented leaders the Democrats are putting forward, you’ve got Run For Something to thank! RFS focuses on recruiting and supporting young people as they run for downballot offices, and their alums include Rep. Jasmine Crockett, State Senator Mallory McMorrow, State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo. And they’re gearing up to keep the bench strong! They’re holding a call on August 29th at 8PM ET to highlight their slate of women candidates. Let’s sign up to join them for this event here.
