WRITE POSTCARDS TO MOMS
With the hopes of reaching one million moms who may not always vote, Mom'sRising makes it easy and affordable to work in tandem with them. MomsRising will send a packet of pre-addressed, pre-stamped postcards in early September along with some brief instructions. All we’ll need to do is write a quick note of encouragement on each and drop in the mail. Let’s sign up here.
LET’S LEVERAGE OUR ACTIVISM
Writing letters with Vote Forward to likely Democratic voters in swing states and swing districts is a great way to help elect Kamala Harris and Democrats in down-ballot races. Doing that as individuals: Yay! Doing that with friends: double, triple, quadruple, even decuple Yay! Let’s sign up to write letters to voters with Vote Forward. Then, let’s leverage our activism by inviting friends to join us in a community letter-writing event. Maybe we can even organize our own event using this guide!
BRAVER ANGELS - SKILLS FOR SOCIAL MEDIA
During these last few months of the election cycle, we know that tempers will flare, and differences will be highlighted. Braver Angels wants to help us find a better way through this time. They offer a 40-minute online course that will “teach you the knowledge and skills to avoid contributing to polarization on social media. It will also help you identify difficult situations and help you decide what strategy to use to either participate or disengage from them. You will learn tools to depolarize yourself and engage more constructively with those you disagree with on social media.” Let’s take this short course and add these skills to our personal toolkit.
PRESERVE REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS IN FLORIDA
We’ve seen it again and again: when people know abortion is on the ballot, they will vote for our rights. Polls are bearing this out right now in Florida, where a constitutional amendment protecting reproductive rights is up for a vote in November. 69% of respondents are saying they’ll back the amendment in a recent survey by the University of North Florida. It takes 60% to win, and bigger margins might help VP Harris and Democratic Senate candidate former Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, who is trailing Senator Rick Scott just outside the margin of error, pull off surprises. Let’s join Floridians Protecting Freedom in contacting voters in favor of this amendment. We can phone bank from home every Thursday here.
