JUSTICE FOR EPSTEIN’S VICTIMS MUST MEAN ACTUAL CONSEQUENCES
We are learning much more about Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes and connections and how this administration and other elites have covered up for them. But for all this new information, we’ve seen very little genuine accountability. As Rep. Jerry Nadler pointed out to the Attorney General yesterday, the Trump DoJ has indicted no one, and only a handful of those found in the files are facing consequences beyond public shame.
This extends into the president’s cabinet. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has been caught brazenly lying about the extent of his relationship with Epstein, maintaining close ties for years after he realized he was a “disgusting person.” In other nations, the fallout has threatened governments and monarchies. In the United States, the Trump Administration is as usual shamelessly shielding wrongdoing by regime allies. Given Trump’s own name is all over the files, it’s predictable, but unacceptable.
There is so much that needs to be done to achieve justice for Epstein’s victims. Insisting a senior public official busted lying about his Epstein connections not go on about his work as if everything is normal is a very easy and basic place to start. Several members of Congress, including Senators Schiff and Rosen and Reps. Garcia, Khanna, Lieu, Stansbury, Kamlager-Dove and Massie have called for Lutnick to quit or be terminated. We need many more to raise their voices. 🔊 Let’s reach out to our members of Congress and ask them to demand Lutnick resign, be fired or be impeached. We can find call language to use here, email language to use here or send them this message directly by texting SIGN PGKBGU to 50409. 🔊
NEWS ON CAPITOL HILL: SHUTDOWN COMING, SAVE ACT PASSED, TARIFFS TARGETED
With less than 48 hours until Homeland Security funding expires, we are headed towards a shutdown. Chuck Schumer announced on social media yesterday morning that Senate Dems will block a short-term resolution, since Republicans are currently rejecting every new restraint on ICE except body cameras. This is a positive sign, but we’ve been let down by this Democratic caucus before. 🔊 Let’s reach out to our members of Congress and remind them again we’re insisting on not a penny more for ICE and CBP without some meaningful and enforceable limits are put on them. We can find call scripts here and email language we can use here. 🔊
Meanwhile in the House, Republicans as expected passed their updated version of the voter suppression bill deemed the “SAVE Act.” They’ve actually lost ground since their initial vote last April – four Democrats voted for the legislation then, and only Henry Cuellar (D-TX) crossed the line today. Conservatives are pushing hard for action on it, urging Senate Republicans to pursue a talking filibuster considering attaching it to “must-pass” legislation. The former idea has limited support, but the latter could be a real problem. 🔊 Let’s take this moment to encourage our senators to reject these new obstacles to voting, even if the GOP tries to roll it into the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. We can find language to work from here. 🔊
In better news, Trump is officially headed for a series of embarrassing congressional rebukes on one of his top policies… in spite of controlling Congress. Six Republicans joined almost every House Democrat to successfully pass a resolution to end Trump’s anti-Canada tariffs. H.J.Res. 72 will now head to the Senate, where success in a similar vote in October suggests it’s likely to pass. While Trump will certainly veto, it’s a tremendous popular rejection of his inflationary tax hikes.
And this is just the beginning. Rep. Gregory Meeks has said he’ll push for votes to reject the anti-Mexico, anti-Brazil and global 10% tariffs next. 🔊 Let’s reach out to our senators in support of ending the trade war with Canada and push our House members to support all the anti-import tax resolutions. We can find call scripts here and email language here and here, or send a Canada-specific message to the Senate by texting SIGN PKXRDZ to 50409. 🔊
WE’RE RALLYING TO TAKE BACK SCIENCE MARCH 7TH
The momentum is starting to build for the next #NoKings mass mobilization on March 28th (stay tuned for some announcements next week). But we’ll be coming together for mass mobilizations in the weeks leading up to it, too.
With research funding being slashed, scientists leaving the country, and the United States on the verge of losing measles elimination status, Rogan’s List is proud to endorse Stand Up for Science’s second national day of action coming on March 7th. Scientist-activists and their supporters will be rallying in Washington DC and at least 16 other cities across the country.
🪧 Let’s mark our calendars for March 7th and try to attend events in our area. We can also volunteer to host a rally in our community here and spread the word using this set of flyers. 🪧
CALL TONIGHT FOR VOLUNTEERS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST DATA CENTERS
In the face of rising energy costs and strained water resources, the data center resistance is here and growing. Local opposition has blocked or delayed $64 billion in data center projects. It’s a good start. 🙋♀️ If we want to play a bigger part in this fight, we can join a volunteer call with Food & Water Watch TONIGHT at 8PM ET to get plugged in to their fight for a national data center moratorium. We can sign up here. 🙋♀️
We can also find more resources here.
#RESISTANDUNSUBSCRIBE, PRESSURE TRUMP BY SWITCHING TO NON-US TECH COMPANIES
Professor Scott Galloway argues that a very effective way to stop at some of Trump’s outrages is to hit him in the pocketbook, saying, “Trump does not respond to outrage, he responds to markets.” This strategy worked at Davos where the threat of European countries selling off us bonds made him back down off his threats to Greenland.
Here at home, a concentrated strike against the tech companies could have a similar impact. While we work for a coordinated strike to come together, Professor Galloway has launched the #ResistAndUnsubscribe campaign to identify Trump’s enablers and urge folks to start pulling their money from them. 💲He’s pulled together a site with the targets and one-click links to unsubscribe from them we can check out and put to use here. And since we’re probably not going to give up our digital life entirely, we can also check out this Wired article that gives us several alternatives to US tech companies we can switch to.💲
