MAKING THE ASK FOR MAY DAY: MEDIA EDITION
We’re two days from May Day Strong and beginning to shift our level of commitment from mass protest to mass non-compliance. And we’re finally beginning to break through into the public eye, with local coverage picking up from Massachusetts to South Carolina to Wisconsin. But we’ve all noticed this hasn’t captured the media’s attention like No Kings, and that means we’re going to have to demand it.
📢 Today, let’s be sure to contact our local and regional newspapers and local TV news affiliates and ask them to cover May Day protests and the shutdown in our area. We can find the details on protests near us here and talking points and sample press notes in the communications starter pack here. 📢

UNPRECEDENTED INTERFERENCE IN OUR ELECTIONS REQUIRES A MASSIVE RESPONSE
On Monday, Reuters ran a special report revealing that Trump’s efforts to seize control of our elections have been significantly broader than previously known. His henchmen have been documented conducting raids and trying to seize confidential records, access voting equipment and relitigate long debunked lies about voter fraud in at least eight states – “testing constitutional limits one state and one county at a time.” These folks are laying the groundwork to screw with the midterms, and we need to be ready.
Part of this, of course, is building the infrastructure for mass action with May Day Strong, so that we’re better prepared to shut down the country if we need to. But beyond this, the national coalition of organizers at No Small Act has launched a new election protection initiative called Protect The Vote 2026, They’re aiming to recruit half a million volunteers to help ensure free, fair and secure elections – including gathering citizen-observers and legal teams, building resilience hubs to serve more than 100 counties and training 200,000 poll workers. They’re off to a fast start, with 12,000 people going through their program in its first month. ❎ If we want to help them keep Trump’s tiny hands off our ballots, we can learn more about the program here, registered for their training courses here and add our names to their volunteer list here. ❎
HOUSE STILL NOWHERE ON MAJOR BILLS, SENATE TO CONSIDER TRUMP PUPPET
Mike Johnson’s attempts to ram warrantless wiretapping, ICE and CBP funding without restraints and corporate giveaways in the Farm Bill through the House are, as predicted, not going smoothly. While the GOP finally managed to get the bills through the Rules Committee late last night, right wingers are threatening to block them at the next procedural step before the full House this morning.
No to belabor the point: this total chaos is an opportunity. If Democrats stand firm and united, the right wing split opens the door for progress on ending backdoor searches of our data and blocking special protections for the chemical industry – and makes it clear we are still fighting to stop ICE terror and restore food assistance.
🗣️ For today, let’s make sure we’re calling our reps about the budget resolution. We can remind them that the human toll of Trump’s masked thugs is still growing and we’re still demanding not a cent for ICE and CBP until they’re brought back within the law. On the Senate side, today we anticipate the Senate Banking Committee will vote on the nomination of Trump’s nominee to lead the Federal Reserve, Kevin Warsh.
For weeks, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) had suggested he would stall Trump’s puppet until the White House stopped threatening to imprison current chair Jerome Powell. U.S. Attorney and Fox News personality Jeanine Pirro announced she was dropping the probe Friday, satisfying Tillis in spite of the White House almost immediately insisting the investigation was not, in fact over and their continued effort to prosecute his fellow Fed governor Lisa Cook.
The independence of our central bank – and our economic health – remains in danger, and it’s unacceptable for our elected officials to ignore that and let Trump install his puppet. 🗣️ Let’s contact our senators and let them know they need to stand firm and vote no on Warsh. AN ALARM SYSTEM FOR WHEN ICE WANTS TO BUILD A CAMP IN OUR TOWN
Rapid response organizing against ICE’s human warehouses has managed to stall project after project, even in areas where Trump still has support. The fight has been won at the community level, with creative legal strategies and people power. One thing folks on the ground have learned along the way: we’re successful where we’ve gotten engaged early in the process. The folks at Project Salt Box have done the hard work of tracking federal procurement and public records to ensure that we can, and now they’ve come together with Defiance.org and the Save America Movement to build a rapid response network that will alert us if they see signs a facility is being planned for our community and connect us with folks we can work with to stop it. Know Your Rights University (KYR-U) is an animated series that teaches kids lessons about civics, constitutional rights, and free expression. It makes learning fun and prepares them to fully engage in our community.
