Emil Bove was Donald Trump’s personal attorney and was handpicked by him to impose his will on the Justice Department. In his time as a senior official, he has been a central player in the White House’s efforts to use law enforcement as a political weapon.
Bove notoriously ordered federal prosecutors to drop charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams after Adams’ attorneys promised he would assist with the Trump’s priorities on immigration. Seven professional prosecutors ultimately resigned rather than dismiss the case, refusing to play their part in the quid pro quo, and a federal judge suggested Bove had violated “the basic promise of equal justice under the law.”
He also led a purge of career officials at Justice and the FBI and attempted to initiate an investigation on thousands of agents who worked on prosecuting insurrectionists.
Now Trump is nominating Bove for a seat on the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals. This sort of blatant corruption and abuse of the justice system cannot be rewarded with a lifetime appointment to a job that requires honesty, impartiality and fairness. Let’s reach out to our senators and tell them they need to reject Bove’s nomination. And especially if they’re on the Judiciary Committee, they need to need to use his hearings to publicly hold him to account for his role in the Adams quid pro quo.

Hi, my name is _________, and I’m a constituent from (city, zip). (If voicemail, leave street address).
I am calling to demand Senator _________ oppose the nomination of Emil Bove (pronounced bo-vay) to the Third Circuit. Bove made a dirty deal to let a crooked politician off the hook in exchange for political favors for Trump. It’s corruption and abuse of power, and there’s no way we can trust him to be a fair and honest judge.
(IF YOUR MEMBER IS ON THE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE:)
Please also take advantage of committee hearings on this nomination to hold Bove accountable for this quid pro quo. A full airing of this scandal on Capitol Hill has been a long time coming.
(YOU CAN ADD):
A federal judge once said Bove violated the basic promise of equal justice under the law. That’s his legacy in public service. He’s undermined federal law enforcement by using it as a political weapon and purged career prosecutors and police who disagreed. If this is what he’s done at the Justice Department, it’s hard to imagine what he might try to get away with a lifetime appointment.
This is like an old-time machine politician rewarding one of his cronies for services rendered with a sweet gig. It can’t be allowed to happen.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

In his short time at the Department of Justice, Emil Bove wracked up a stunning record of abuse of power and corruption on Donald Trump’s behalf. Most notoriously, he ordered federal prosecutors to drop charges against the mayor of New York City after the mayor’s lawyers promised Trump political favors. Seven different professional prosecutors resigned in protest rather than dismiss the case and take part in this quid pro quo. A federal judge suggested Bove had violated “the basic promise of equal justice under the law.” He also led the purge of career officials at the Department and at the FBI and attempted to investigate thousands of agents for doing their jobs and enforcing the law against insurrectionists.
His dirty deals and undermining of law enforcement independence should have gotten him fired. Instead, Trump has nominated Bove for a seat on a federal appeals court, like an old-time machine politician rewarding one of his cronies with a sweet gig for services rendered. There is no way he can be trusted to be a fair and honest judge, to be impartial and objective and put the law first. If this is what he’s done at the Justice Department, it’s hard to imagine what Bove might try to get away with a lifetime appointment.
Please vote no on this crooked and dangerous political flunky.
(IF YOUR MEMBER IS ON THE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE, ADD): Furthermore, take advantage of committee hearings on this nomination to hold Bove accountable for his actions in the Adams case. A full airing of this scandal on Capitol Hill has been a long time coming.
