SAVE THE AFFORDABLE CONNECTIVITY PROGRAM
The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a federal program that reduces internet costs for those who qualify. This vital benefit is coming to an end in April 2024. We can save it if a proposed bipartisan bill is passed. Let's contact our Members of Congress to co-sponsor S.3565 and H.R.6929, or contact them using this letter from Common Cause. Here is more information on the program.
MOMSRISING NEEDS OUR HELP
MomsRising now has more than a million members committed to continually reminding legislators about the need for family-friendly—and that includes all types of families—policies and legislation. Current projects address workplace justice, youth and family justice, maternal health, election participation, gun safety, and more. At the moment, MomsRising continues to remind Congress of the need to expand the child tax credit; is launching a Valentine-themed campaign reminding Congress that we want legislation showing families love, and a drive to ban book bans. MomsRising makes action easy by sending out regular reminders to contact Congress that include necessary links and by providing prepaid postcards when they run get-out-the-vote campaigns. If we don’t want our inbox to be flooded, we can sign up for their once-a-week 5 actions email. They’re probably engaged in efforts that matter to us. Let’s check out MomsRising and sign up to help.
SUPPORT UNIONIZING PHARMACISTS
Activists are looking to build on the momentum of recent walkouts of retail pharmacy staff, formally launching a national push to help these workers unionize in the face of unsafe working conditions. The Pharmacy Guild aims to unionize 90% of pharmacists working for Walgreens and CVS in five years – benefiting workers and patients at the same time. Let’s show them some support. We can start by sharing this video by More Perfect Union and signing their letter to the CEOs of Walgreens and CVS endorsing their demands.
CONTRIBUTE TO BLACK HISTORY: TRANSCRIBE THE CORRESPONDENCE OF FREDERICK DOUGLASS
As part of an ongoing effort to transcribe the writings of the great American abolitionist, orator, and writer, and statesman Frederick Douglass, there’s an annual event called Douglass Day held on February 14, Douglass’s chosen birthday. On Douglass Day this year, volunteers across the country will transcribe 8,731 pages of Douglass’s general correspondence from 1841 to 1912. Events take place in-person, online, or hybrid. Let’s learn more and if we want to participate in this transcribe-a-thon, we can register here.
