CELEBRATING JUNETEENTH IS AN ACT OF PROTEST…
Juneteenth represents so much of what the Trump regime and its white nationalist backers hate and fear about this country. It’s a recognition of the darkest parts of our history, a time to remember those who survived, resisted and overcame white supremacy and authoritarianism, and an unapologetic celebration of Black culture and Black joy.
Today it’ll be celebrated nationwide with public readings of the Emancipation Proclamation, parades and festivals, family gatherings and cookouts, musical performances and concerts, learning about African-American history, and community service events. 🎆 Let’s join the festivities! We can consult Juneteenth Events, the national hub for discovering Juneteenth celebrations across the US, to find one in our community. 🎆
🎆 We can also check out and find inspiration from this list of 27 ways to thoughtfully celebrate Juneteenth from Good Good Good. 🎆
…AND IT MARKS THE OFFICIAL KICKOFF OF FREEDOM SUMMER
The national coalition of civil rights groups which organized All Roads Lead to the South in Alabama is taking this holiday weekend to officially launch Freedom Summer (and Fall) 2026 events, an ongoing drumbeat of mobilizations from now through September to Election Day to combat attacks on civil rights, voting rights, safety, education, housing, health care and economic freedom for Black Americans by this regime.
They’ll hold their main rally in Harlem tomorrow and satellite protests across the country over the next week, recruiting a base of activated volunteers ready to rebuild multiracial democracy and putting them to work educating and rallying voters. 🪧 We can read more and find events near us here. 🪧
MAKE SOME GOOD TROUBLE THIS JULY
One of the tentpole events for this activism in the next few months will be the annual honoring of the legacy of John Lewis: the Good Trouble Lives On Day of Action, this year extended to a full weekend from July 17-19. We’ll be mobilizing folks across the country that weekend to register voters, check the status of those at risk of being purged from the rolls, recruit poll workers, and teach their communities about the rights we still have. (Rogan’s List is a proud partner for GTLO!)
🙋🏾♀️ We’re recruiting event hosts for these voter outreach events right now! If we’re interested in taking a leadership role, we can register an event here. If we want to be foot soldiers in this movement, we’ll be able to find events near us as they’re scheduled here. 🙋🏻♂️
VOLUNTEER WITH BLACK VOTERS MATTER
The work, of course, will take more than one weekend. Organizing the folks silenced by racial gerrymanders and voter suppression is the year-round mission of Black Voters Matter. Over the last decade they’ve engaged more than 10 million voters, invested $50 million in grassroots power and organized 25 states. And with the challenge greater than ever, they’re looking to grow. 🙋🏿♀️ Let’s sign up to volunteer on their efforts here. 🙋🏿
BLACK HISTORY IS AMERICAN HISTORY
The literal whitewashing of American history by the Trump regime will not stop us from having a joyous Juneteenth 2026. Neither will threats, crimes, and intimidation, like the recent burning of a package of Juneteenth celebratory items at the Boston Museum of African American History.
✍🏾 Let’s send a note of love and support to Museum of African American History. ✍🏻
🏫 And let’s visit an African-American history museum near us—we can use this list, or contact our local public library for information. We can also find virtual resources to inform ourselves and be faithful to truth with the videos at Black History in Two Minutes (or so). 🏫
