NO ONE HAS MORE CONTEMPT FOR CONGRESS THAN HOUSE REPUBLICANS
Republicans on the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees have marked up resolutions recommending Hunter Biden be held in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena. Congress could vote on them as soon as next week. This move is laughable, both because Hunter has volunteered to answer the committees’ questions publicly in compliance with their request for testimony, only declining to do so behind closed doors… and because Judiciary chair Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) was among those members of Congress who genuinely defied a subpoena from the January Sixth Committee. Let’s reach out to our members of Congress and tell them to reject these charges against Hunter Biden and let him testify in public, and push them to call for a vote on holding in contempt Reps. Jordan, Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Scott Perry (R-PA) and former Reps. Mo Brooks (R-AL) and Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) if the GOP insists on going through with this.TELL CONGRESS: EXTEND THE INTERNET AFFORDABILITY PROGRAM
Funding for the federal Affordable Connectivity Program, which helps low-income families get the broadband they need to function in today’s world, is expected to run out of money in April. If Congress does not renew and fully fund the program, more than 22 million households will lose access to the internet. The program is “trapped in a partisan war between Democrats who want to renew it, and Republicans worried it will let President Joe Biden take too much of a victory lap during a campaign year.” Let’s tell our Members of Congress that the Affordable Connectivity Program makes it possible for low-income people to participate in the economy and in our society, and we them to fund the program so it can continue.
WIN BACK THE HOUSE
This November, every House seat will be up for election, giving Democrats a chance to retake the majority. Swing Left's Win Back the House campaign has already been hard at work, identifying districts where we can make the most impact and contributing to election campaigns early. As election year swings into gear, let's help build momentum to flip the House by using the graphics in Swing Left's "Share on social" section along with the hashtag #WinBackTheHouse on social media. We can use the sample text they provide, or personalize our messages as we encourage others to get involved and turn the House blue.
STAMP PRICES GOING UP JANUARY 21
There will be lots of postcarding and letter writing in the coming months. Postal rates are going up again, including the price of Forever stamps, on January 21. At that time, letters will be 68-cents (up from 66-cents) and postcards will be 53-cents (up from 51-cents). Those of us who plan to write postcards to voters this year, or to write letters to voters with Vote Forward, may want to consider stocking up before the price increase kicks in. Let’s make sure to purchase as many as we can at the current prices before they go up. We can get them at our local post office or we can purchase Forever postcard stamps here and Forever First-Class letter stamps here.
ANOTHER STEP FORWARD FOR ABORTION RIGHTS IN FLORIDA
Activists in Florida reached a major milestone last week, securing enough state-certified signatures to put an amendment guaranteeing abortion rights on the ballot in November. While there are still ongoing legal challenges, we’re turning our attention to winning votes! Let’s sign up here to volunteer on the phones and textbanks to help Floridians secure reproductive freedom, and consider a donation if we’re able.
