SENATE CREEPS TOWARDS FLOOR VOTE ON MAGA MURDER BUDGET
We began yesterday with the fate of the MAGA murder budget undecided in the Senate. As of 2AM and after a day of amendment votes, that’s still very much where we are.
We now know that cutting off Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood clinics will be in the bill, after it got the okay from the parliamentarian and a Democratic effort to remove it failed with only Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) crossing party lines. It seems increasingly likely that the ban on state regulation of AI will be removed, with Collins and Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) joining Dem efforts to strike it, and it is increasingly unlikely they will add the Medicaid expansion rollback, with Josh Hawley (R-MO) announcing his opposition.
We still do not know the fate of efforts to pare back the GOP attack on clean energy; whether far-right senators like Ron Johnson, Mike Lee and Rick Scott will back the bill if their Medicaid expansion rollback fails; and where supposed “moderates” like Collins and Murkowski who claim to still be undecided will land. We also do not know whether House Republicans will be willing to pass whatever the Senate hands them or whether they will want further changes.
One more thing we know: we are going to keep doing everything in our power to make sure they hear us saying hell no to this catastrophe.
Let’s keep our members of Congress’ phones ringing in opposition. And let’s join phonebanks today to make sure folks in key states do, too:

JOIN EPA STAFFERS IN DISSENTING FROM ADMINISTRATOR ZELDIN’S WAR ON THE ENVIRONMENT
As of this writing, hundreds of employees of the Environmental Protection Agency have publicly signed a Declaration of Dissent from EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin’s rollbacks (example) of environmental protections. The Declaration cites five serious concerns: (1) EPA’s retreat from science-based policy; (2) EPA’s abandonment of its mission to protect public health in favor of increasing polluters’ profits; (3) EPA’s cancellation of environmental justice programs; (4) EPA’s gutting of its renowned research and development office; and (5) EPA’s attacks on its own employees. Let’s support these brave employees by adding our names to the Declaration of Dissent.
PROTECT EMPLOYEES FROM ICE
Businesses are stepping up to protect their employees against ICE raids. Over 100 workplaces have pledged to become 4th Amendment Workplaces and have trained their staff on what to do if ICE shows up. The 4th Amendment to the Constitution includes "the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures,” and employers can invoke it for their businesses! We can download a guide and find out more here on this important and useful initiative.
SEND POSTCARDS TO HOLD REPS ACCOUNTABLE FOR SILENCE ON TRUMP ANTI-IMMIGRANT ACTIONS
After protests broke out in California in response to federal immigration raids, Trump sent in thousands of National Guard troops over the objections of local officials and law enforcement. Peaceful demonstrators were tear-gassed, a union leader was arrested, and elected officials who tried to speak were forcibly removed.
Despite all this, Republican Representatives David Valadao (CA-22), Young Kim (CA-40), and Ken Calvert (CA-41) have stayed silent. They haven’t spoken out against the use of military force on civilians or stood up for Californians who were detained for protesting. Their silence speaks volumes. That’s why Activate America is launching a postcard campaign to reach voters in their districts. If we join in, we’ll be asking people to call their Representatives and demand they take a stand. Postcards should be sent by July 25th. If we are ready to help, we can sign up here to volunteer and start sending postcards that hold Valadao, Kim, and Calvert responsible.
