July 14, 2025 - Three Days to Good Trouble Lives On
Plus a rescissions vote, Trump-Noem cuts screwing up FEMA, preparing for the murder budget to hit and more
We’re on the beach this week, so Rogan’s List will be publishing briefer issues - we will be back to our usual schedule starting next Monday!
Here’s some actions we can take today:
This week we are set to see a Senate vote on H.R. 4, the rescissions package that rubber stamps Trump’s illegal cuts to foreign aid, NPR and PBS. Trump has made it a key loyalty test, so we are likely to see passage - but if they can’t get it done by Friday, these attacks will be blocked. Let’s make sure our senators know we want them to vote no on the pro-malaria, anti-Big Bird bill - scripts and language here.
Trump is also continuing to ramp up threats to push price-hiking, job-killing tariffs on our major trading partners, pledging 35% import tax hikes on Canada and 30% on Mexico and the European Union countries, along with 50% tariffs on copper and all Brazilian products and 200% on pharmeceuticals. Let’s reach out to our members of Congress and let them know we will hold them responsible for letting this happen - scripts and language here.
Over the weekend, we learned another way that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s “efficiency” effforts contributed to the suffering in Texas: FEMA fired hundreds of call center employees manning their disaster assistance line the day after the floods because Noem delayed renewing their contract - causing them to go from answering 99.7% of calls to 15.9%. Let’s continue to press our elected officials to save FEMA from Trump and Noem’s attacks on the agency - scripts and language here.
Governors and legislators are starting to confront what the MAGA murder budget will mean for them, with massive costs now being passed on to states that are required to balance their budgets. Let’s reach out to our state-level electeds and urge them to aggressively make the case that they are being forced into cuts because of the “big, beautiful bill.”
We’re now just three days from the mass mobilization in honor of civil rights hero John Lewis - let’s make sure we know where we’re headed for it and are asking folks to join us! We can find events in our area here.
Just to add to your list, as of last evening on Mobilize, there is a new Good Trouble event in Phoenix AZ 85014 by Desert Democracy Indivisible. It’s an indoor event, with John Lewis documentary /movie, luncheon, and a special guest, a civil rights activist from his march to Montgomery.
Some of your suggested examples of taking action regarding Congress, Governors, and State legislators will now kick off our luncheon. You’ve made it so easy. Thanks.
