🚨 AUTHORITARIAN CRACKDOWNS FROM COAST TO COAST AS MCIVER INDICTED 🚨

We need to keep up the pressure on our leaders to act against Trump using the military against Americans in Los Angeles (call scripts and more to-dos including a new email tool from the ACLU, a social media toolkit and messaging guidance here, and let’s mention new polling indicates 47%-34% disapproval for Trump sending in the Marines). But Southern California is far from the only place MAGA is pushing forward with its authoritarian agenda. Yesterday also saw Trump’s former personal lawyer formally indict Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) on charges of impeding federal law enforcement officers over her attempts to perform oversight on immigration detention facilities in New Jersey.

Rep. McIver nailed it: this is a brazen attempt at political intimidation, and her colleagues must not pretend otherwise. Let’s reach out to our members of Congress to push them, again, to demand this case be dropped and acting U.S. Attorney and Trump minion Alina Habba testify under oath about who approved the charges and who directed her to file them. Patriotic Americans are ready to respond to this drastic escalation of the Trump administration’s attacks on our constitutional rights. Signups for this weekend’s #NoKings demonstrations are skyrocketing even as MAGA threatens and fearmongers. This will be a test of our courage, and we are going to make damn sure we pass it with massive, peaceful protests across the land.

Let’s make sure we’re doing our part. If we want to help keep everyone safe, we can sign up for tonight’s marshal and peacekeeper training at 8PM so we can get practical tips and crowd management, incident response, and key safety protocols, and we can join or spread the word about tomorrow night’s new call for veterans and military families who will be with us on Saturday.

🌪️ TRUMP WANTS TO “WEAN” STATES OFF FEMA 🌪️

As if causing catastrophes himself wasn’t enough, Trump also told reporters yesterday that he plans to “wean” states off Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance after this year’s hurricane season, saying governors should be able to handle it on their own – “if they can’t handle it, they shouldn’t be governor.”

So let’s get one thing straight: emergency response and recovery is a little more complicated than throwing paper towels at a crowd. States and localities simply cannot afford to do the job without FEMA, especially as climate change increases the cost and frequency of natural disasters. Let’s reach out to our members of Congress and tell them that losing FEMA would be an emergency, and they can keep it from happening. STRATEGY CALL AGAINST ABDUCTION AIRLINES TONIGHT

The ICE detention-and-deportation factory relies heavily on private-charter aircraft to traffick people away, and activists have increasingly identified this as a point where we might be able to throw a wrench in the works. Last weekend, activists took to the streets in 26 cities to protest Avelo Airlines running ICE deportation flights. And we’re just getting started.

The Defend and Recruit Network is holding a strategy call TONIGHT at 8PM to talk about ways we can escalate the fight against Abduction Airlines. We can sign up to join here. We can also sign their #StopAvelo pledge to keep updated on this campaign.

GroundICE.org activists are also conducting a letter-writing and financial campaign to push Signature Aviation to stop offering fuel and maintenance services at airports to deportation flights. We can join here.

We are in a new media environment, but while traditional news outlets have less influence than they once did they’re still important drivers of the conversation. As activists, we still have to know how to get their attention.
