These are immensely frightening times.

Many of the nightmare scenarios we’ve spent years warning the country of, from Republicans using our military to crack down on protesters to Trump’s destruction of Obama’s Iran deal leading to war in the Middle East, are becoming a reality. We are set to be hungrier, less healthy, less free, less safe. The fundamental rights we count on, that enable us to change things for the better, are being stripped from our grasp. As individuals, as communities, and as a country, we are in danger.

But we are not backing down. They want us afraid and alone, and instead we’re going to come together. Tomorrow, millions of us will defy Trump’s threats and take to the streets in big cities and small towns across America. We will demonstrate that we will not be cowed by their saber-rattling. And we remind them that power in this country comes from the people, not some wannabe king.

Let’s get ready.

🚨 TRUMP GOONS ROUGHING UP SENATORS NOW 🚨

Trump’s not content with just having his goons rough up powerless farmworkers and students anymore. Now he’s having them physically manhandle opposition leaders. Following his Justice Department’s indictment of Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) for doing her job and indications that multiple governors might be subject to arrest, California Senator Alex Padilla was tackled to the floor, handcuffed and physically removed from a press conference by the Secretary of Homeland Security for attempting to ask her a question.

Once again we’re forced to ask – what will it take for our members of Congress to draw the line and shut down normal operations? Because MAGA is coming after them now. They need to act while they are enough of them free to do so.

Let’s once again call for our electeds to use all procedural tools available to gum up the works on Capitol Hill and make it clear there will be no business as usual while Trump chainsaws our democracy. ☎️ TELL CONGRESS: NO FUNDING FOR TRUMP’S UNCONSTITUTIONAL ANTI-BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP “ORDER” ☎️

“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” Despite the clear language of the 14th Amendment establishing birthright citizenship, within days of taking office, Trump issued an executive order purporting to deny citizenship status to those born in the US to noncitizens. The substance of this case is wending its way to the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) has introduced a bill in Congress to prohibit any funding that would go toward carrying out this unconstitutional executive order. Let’s tell our U.S. Senators to co-sponsor S.646—Born in the USA Act, and let’s tell our U.S. Representative to introduce companion legislation in the House.

🫱🏻‍🫲🏿 LEARN WAYS TO START AN ANTI- ICE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH 🫱🏾‍🫲🏼

Trump’s latest push to ramp up deportations targets people who are already part of our daily lives—parents, coworkers, neighbors. (Kristi Noem admitted yesterday that two-thirds of those picked up in ICE’s California raids had no criminal record.) That can leave us feeling powerless. But we’re not.

Sharing accurate info can help immigrants avoid ICE and reduce panic. That’s why in places like North Carolina, groups like Siembra NC are building community-led “neighborhood watch” programs to protect, inform and support our immigrant friends. These programs train volunteers to share verified alerts, dispel rumors, and help families make safety plans, and find ways to support themselves while working to free their loved ones.

🤜 30 LONELY BUT BEAUTIFUL ACTIONS – HOLDING OURSELVES ACCOUNTABLE #2 (H/T The White Pages) 🤛

We’re continuing to highlight a series of actions from Barnraisers Project founder Garrett Bucks on small ways to stay grounded and serve others – helping everyone find something to fit our comfort level. Next on the list, more ways to hold ourselves accountable for continuing to act:

• We can reach out to friends with care-giving responsibilities: for kids, for grand-kids, for elders. Ask them, “Hey, if a few of us were to watch your kids or run groceries to your dad tomorrow afternoon, what political action could you take? Would you spend some time researching what’s happening? Would you volunteer? Would you call? Would you hold your lonely sign?” Or alternately, if we’re somebody with care-giving responsibilities, take the risk of asking somebody— perhaps somebody who is a loose connection but that we want to get to know better— for help.
