POSTMASTER LOUIS DEJOY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED
We all remember the fiasco caused by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy in the 2020 presidential election. There is good reason to wonder if this could happen again in November. Rogan’s List has long advocated for the replacement of DeJoy as Postmaster, but that cannot be addressed until the final two seats of the USPS Board of Governors are named by Biden and approved by the Senate. Let’s ask President Biden to fill these two openings in hopes that the Board can replace DeJoy before the election.
FREE CIVICS 101 MINI-LESSONS
The need for better civics education is clear. Only seven states require a full year of civics instruction in high school; 13 states have “no requirement at all.” The federal government spends $50 per student on STEM education each year, but only five cents per student on civics, down 90 percent since 2000. A good civics background helps us understand our government works and what our role is in it. Maybe we or someone we know needs a refresher or even needs to start from scratch. The Sandra Day O’Connor Institute Civics 101 program offers free, 5–10-minute micro lessons to boost our knowledge of our government even higher. We can start here by first taking the short quiz here, then moving on to individual lessons.
WRITE LETTERS TO GET OUT THE VOTE IN NOVEMBER
The amazing organization Vote Forward has launched its first letter-writing campaigns of 2024! We can choose to write to historically marginalized voters or to likely Democratic voters—either way, we’re writing to get out the vote in key swing states. The plan is to start writing now and stockpile our letters, then mail them in October. With 200,000 volunteers writing 17.6 million letters in 2020, Vote Forward’s 2020 letter-writing campaigns meaningfully contributed to the outcome of that election. Let’s help do it again—we can get started here.
THANKS TO BIDEN
Markers For Democracy has launched a campaign #postcardstobiden encouraging people to send the President a postcard expressing the fact that he has been an excellent President, you appreciate what he has done for the country. and you want him to serve a second term. Please encourage others to do the same. After his rousing State of the Union last night, let’s send postcards to Biden. Postcards should be addressed to President Biden at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC 20500 (h/t Hopium Chronicles By Simon Rosenberg)
STATE-SPECIFIC ACTIONS
TN – BLUE TENNESSEE EXPANSION OF EVERY STATE BLUE
No doubt you’ve seen how diabolical the TN GOP has been in silencing critics and quashing dissent. Thankfully, there is a new group dedicated to empowering the grassroots community to crowdsource for democratic nominees. The Blue Tennessee expansion of Every State Blue, aims to fund and support down ballot democrats running in some of the reddest, roughest, toughest districts in TN. The Zoom kick-off is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30pm EST. We can register here.
Thanks for the Fire Louis DeJoy action we are putting that in our weekly Indivisible Greater Vancouver Actions
I have one I'd like you to consider for next week. It is to pass the Youth Voting Rights Act - It comes with Resistbot for MOCs and Senators.
Protect Democracy
USe RESISTBOT on your cell phone text SIGN PDAALP to 50409 to ask Congress to pass the Youth Voting RIghts Act.
“In the last few years states have implemented over 500 laws to restrict voting. Many of those laws make it more difficult for young people to register and vote. The Youth Voting Rights Act, H.R. 5293/S. 2985, is a comprehensive package designed to address the systemic barriers that have, for too long, silenced the voices of our younger generation.
As your constituent I strongly urge you to actively support the Youth Voting RIghts Act now. We need this to protect and defend our democracy and we need to ensure every eligible voter, regardless of age, can cast their ballot and have their voice heard.”
