Protecting dissenters, organizing with Field Team 6 and concession speeches
DON’T GIVE TRUMP NEW WEAPONS AGAINST RESISTANCE
The House is set to vote as soon as this morning on a dangerous bill that would grant the Secretary of the Treasury unilateral authority to revoke the tax-exempt status of any nonprofit deemed to be a “terrorist supporting organization.” H.R. 9495 is ripe for abuse, requiring no explanation and no evidence for how Treasury officials concluded a nonprofit was “terror supporting.” It can be used without due process to kneecap 501(c)(3) groups, the heart of our civil society, just at the moment we need them most to counter Trump. The ACLU has led more than 100 organizations in urging Congress to oppose this legislation, which they warn will stifle dissent. While earlier versions of the bill had Democratic support, in light of Trump’s election some are reconsidering. Let’s make sure we reach our House members ASAP and tell them to vote no, and warn our senators we’ll be expecting them to block this legislation if it passes the House in this Congress or the next. We can use language from this message from the ACLU or send this Resistbot letter by texting PCDICI to 50409, and sign this petition from MPower.

UPLIFTING CONCESSION SPEECHES
Most of us have heard all or part of Kamala Harris’ concession speech. Harris said in Wednesday's remarks from her alma mater, Howard University: "Hear me when I say, the light of America's promise will always burn bright. As long as we never give up, and as long as we keep fighting." She went on to say, “do not despair. This is not a time to throw up our hands. This is a time to roll up our sleeves. This is a time to organize, to mobilize, and to stay engaged for the sake of freedom and justice and the future that we all know we can build together.” Not as well noticed was that Tim Walz also gave an encouraging speech following the election. Let’s take a listen here.
Thank you, as always. Seems like next four years are going to be a CF.
