TRUMP CELEBRATES, AND 22 MILLION AMERICANS ARE STILL FACING HIGHER BILLS
The government shutdown is over - and because of the sabotage by Senate Democrats Catherine Cortez Masto (NV), Richard Durbin (IL), John Fetterman (PA), Maggie Hassan (NH), Tim Kaine (VA), Angus King (ME), Jacky Rosen (NV), and Jeanne Shaheen (NH), we now face the fight to stop Trump’s health care premium spikes from hitting 22 million Americans with minimal leverage to force Republicans to the table. While Senate Majority Leader John Thune has promised a vote on extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits by mid-December, it would need at least 13 Republican supporters to pass, and House Speaker Mike Johnson refuses to make a similar commitment. Democrats are pursuing a discharge petition in the House to force a vote, but it’s unclear where the GOP votes will come from.
With open enrollment well underway, we are in a dire spot, and much of the damage for next year is already done. But if we’re to avoid any of this unnecessary pain, we’re going to need to make it clear to everyone in Congress that a show vote doesn’t get them off the hook and we want real solutions - now. Let’s reach out to our members and let them know we still need an extension of the ACA tax credits ASAP. We can find language from 5Calls here.
STARBUCKS WORKERS ARE ON THE PICKET LINE
Starbucks corporate leadership still refuses to offer unionized baristas a fair deal on their first contract, and workers have had enough. Today they launched their third work stoppage in the last 12 months, striking at 65 stores in more than 40 cities to begin with. The Starbucks Workers Union is asking us for our support. Here’s how we can show solidarity:
Don’t buy from Starbucks while the strike is ongoing - at participating locations and everywhere else. We can take the No Contract, No Coffee pledge here.
Visit and support SBWU members on the picket line. We can find a list of striking locations and scheduled rallies here.
Host a Don’t Buy Starbucks action at a non-union location - talking to customers and asking them to respect the strike. We can sign up to join this effort here.
Join SBWU for an allies solidarity call Monday at 8:30PM ET to learn more ways we can help here.
THANK THE JUDGES WHO ARE HOLDING THE LINE
Facing threats, political pressure and a Supreme Court that has frequently not had their backs, lower court judges are still doing vitally important work to keep this administration’s power within the bounds of the law. Let’s acknowledge their work and send encouragement to keep fighting.
District court judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly permanently blocked the administration from requiring proof of citizenship in order to vote.
Let’s send a note or postcard to Judge Kollar-Kotelly thanking her from preventing the administration from putting further obstacles in the path of voters:

U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia
333 Constitution Avenue, N.W.
Washington D.C. 20001
District court judge Karin Immergut again barred Trump from deploying the National Guard against Portland, as there is “no credible evidence” to justify such a move.
Let’s send a note or postcard to thank Judge Immergut for continuing to stand up against this abuse of power:
Judge Karin Immergut
Mark O. Hatfield United States Courthouse
1000 Southwest Third Avenue, Room 1307
Portland, Oregon 97204-2942
District court judge Robert Gettleman ordered that conditions in an immigration detention center in Chicago be improved after evidence of inhumane conditions came to light.
Let’s write a note or postcard to thank Judge Gettleman for trying to protect vulnerable detainees from being subjected to unacceptable living conditions:

Everett McKinley Dirksen United States Courthouse
219 South Dearborn Street
Chicago, IL 60604

A lightbulb went off in my brain & I googled the courthouses for phone numbers of the judges. I don't work, so hope it's okay to leave voicemails thanking them instead of mailing.
