GOTV TO CREATE THE FIRST PUBLIC-OWNED STATEWIDE UTILITY COMPANY
Mainers are about to get the opportunity to vote on creating the first statewide consumer-owned utility company in the nation – Pine Tree Power. This could help lower utility bills, increase accountability and reliability, and make Maine a leader in shifting away from fossil fuels. A win here could have ripple effects across the nation. Opponents are being heavily funded by the foreign-owned parent companies of the current private utilities. We can sign up to phonebank here to get out the vote tonight!HELP CURE VIRGINIA VOTES
It was bad enough that Virginia Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin’s administration erroneously purged 3,400 eligible voters, but now there are reports that ballots from voters of color are being challenged at a higher rate than white voters. The Virginia elections are extremely close this year and it is essential that all votes cast be counted. All 140 seats in Virginia’s General Assembly are on the ballot. The challenged ballots can be “cured” - that is, repaired so that they can be included. VA Dems is asking for our help to get this job done no matter where we live. Two- and three-hour shifts are available from today, Monday, Nov. 6 through Monday, Nov. 13. Training will be provided. Let’s click here to see how we can help with this effort.
REMIND FRIENDS TO JOIN US IN KEY LOCAL ELECTIONS
Once again, democracy is on the ballot. Bolts Magazine has identified 10 local elections that will have a big effect on voting rights, with consequences that could matter to all of us. Kentucky, Louisiana and Mississippi will choose their Secretaries of State, the head of elections for their state. Pennsylvania will elect a new Supreme Court Justice and several local election officials, while changes in election law are on the ballot in Maine and Michigan. All these elections are scheduled for tomorrow except for Louisiana (where the runoff will be on November 18). We can learn more about these key races here. If one of these are our local elections we can make sure to vote and reach out to encourage our friends to vote with us, using apps like SWIPEBLUE to make it easier for us to reach out to them.
BRING A CHILD TO THE POLLS
If we plan to vote on Election Day, let’s consider bringing a child in our lives along with us. We can help prepare them by using some of the ideas offered here and here, and we can model our seriousness and excitement as they watch us cast our ballot. (h/t Voter Participation Center)

Early voting is ongoing for Georgia’s critical November elections, and similar to years past, New Georgia Project's Rides to the Polls program is setting out to ensure folks have the transportation they need to vote. This year, they’re providing *free* Lyft vouchers and helping set up Lyft rides for anyone who needs a ride to the polls. If we need a ride, we can sign up here.
