GET OUT THE VOTE - ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS EDITION
“Did Not Vote” was the real winner in November 2024, with almost 86 million eligible voters sitting out the election compared to 77 million who cast ballots for Trump and 74 million for Kamala. If we are able to maintain free and fair elections, winning going forward – and in particular securing climate action – will require getting people among those 86 million who care about the environment to the polls. That’s the focus of the Environmental Voter Project, which this year is aiming to mobilize six million low-propensity climate voters in 300 state and local elections. In the next few days, they’re targeting major races in Virginia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania as well as some even further down ballot in New Mexico, North Carolina, Georgia, New York and Arizona.
We can join their efforts at multiple times during this GOTV weekend and through Election Day - including phonebanks with Bill McKibben and our friend Jess Craven on Friday afternoon. Let’s sign up to join EVP here. (We can also find more phonebank shifts here and textbank opportunities here.)
THEY’RE BUILDING BILLIONAIRE TAX CUTS AND MAKING HARD-WORKING AMERICANS PAY FOR IT
Open enrollment is just days from opening, and Trump and Congressional Republicans continue to keep our government shut down rather than come to an agreement to stop health insurance premiums from spiking for 22 million Americans. The Economic Security Project-led Stop The Healthcare Heist Week of Action is in full swing, looking to remind our fellow Americans of what this fight is really about, affirm our support for Democrats holding firm to protect our care and raise the pressure on MAGA to stop coming after working folks. TODAY, there are multiple ways we can participate right from our own homes:
Working Families Power is leading a virtual phonebank at 6PM, reaching voters in key states to urge them to reach out to their members of Congress about the spike in costs and the healthcare heist. We can sign up to join them here.
People’s Action will be holding an event reviewing where we are in this fight and what we can do to keep organizing tonight at 8PM. We can join in here.
Local events are also continuing across the country! We can find one near us here.
SPOTIFY IS COMPLICIT WITH ICE
As the deportation machine disappears our neighbors, Spotify is running ads recruiting agents for ICE. They’re choosing complicity over the artists, podcasters, and fans who make Spotify what it is -- and when users and musicians called them out, Spotify’s first act was doubling down. Indivisible is pushing back, asking anyone who subscribes to Spotify Premium to cancel our subscriptions until Spotify stops running ICE ads. Click here to watch step-by-step instructions on how to cancel Spotify Premium.
THANK THE JUDGES (AND ATTORNEYS GENERAL) WHO ARE HOLDING THE LINE
Facing threats, political pressure and a Supreme Court that has frequently not had their backs, lower court judges are still doing vitally important work to keep this administration’s power within the bounds of the law. Let’s acknowledge their work and send encouragement to keep fighting - along with one state attorney general who is making full use of the judiciary on our behalf!
Judge Lewis A. Kaplan has permanently blocked the Trump administration from withholding $34 million in funding from New York, which was earmarked for helping the state protect against terrorist attacks on transit, on the basis of New York’s noncooperation with the administration’s immigration policies.
Let’s send a note or postcard to Judge Kaplan to thank him for stopping this extortion:

District court judge Sara Ellis has ordered U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino to appear at a court hearing next week on the basis that he violated a restraining order against banned tactics towards protestors after a video emerged of him throwing a can of teargas at protestors in Chicago.
Let’s thank Judge Ellis for trying to protect protestors from police brutality:

District court judge Brandy McMillion ruled that a man with leukemia and seven other plaintiffs with medical issues facing deportation had to be released from custody and have a bond hearing within seven days.
Let’s thank Judge McMillion for this merciful intervention.

Arizona’s Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes, who was originally elected by less than 300 votes, has sued the House of Representatives over Republican Speaker Mike Johnson’s refusal to seat Adelita Grijalva in Congress and thus preventing her from weighing in on releasing the Epstein files.
Let’s send a note or postcard to Attorney General Mayes to thank her for trying to stop Johnson from holding this seat hostage:

GET OUT AND VOTE DAMMIT!!
In a typical "off year" election, less than 25% of eligible voters participate and the MAJORITY OF THEM tend to be Fascists...er... Republican.
If we can get over 35 or 40%, the Louisiana Lapdog will be TERRIFIED, Steven Himmiller will be CONFUSED and the Orange Disaster will be AMUSED because he barely has a grasp on reality.
I don't care if you are only selecting a Sheriff (kinda important if you're facing GOONS) or a zoning guy (also important if you need to protect historic, public buildings). We must smoke out and CRUSH THE FASCISTS AT EVERY LEVEL. Bring a friend, call others but GET OUT THERE AND VOTE!!
OR
QUIT YOUR BITCHING AND LIVE WITH THE RESULTS.
We lost this thing one vote at a time kids and that is how we will get it back.
