VOTING AND OTHER HELP FOR HURRICANE HELENE VICTIMS
If we need help recovering from the damage of Hurricane Helene, let’s check this federal government webpage. If we need help with voting, let’s contact the Election Protection Hotline. And if we need free help recovering voter ID, let’s contact VoteRiders.
TODAY - OCT 7 - IS THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER TO VOTE IN THESE STATES
The Hill reports that today is the last day to register to vote in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas. Montana and South Carolina have later in-person registration dates, but to register by mail, your envelope must be postmarked by Oct 7. And to register by mail in Nevada and New Mexico, your envelope must be postmarked by Oct 8. Let’s use TurboVote to make sure we’re registered and to register if we are not.
LESS THAN ONE MONTH LEFT TO WRITE POSTCARDS TO VOTERS
There’s just under a month left of opportunities to write with Postcards To Voters before the November 5th election. Currently, PTV writers continue to write postcards for Senator Sherrod Brown in Ohio and there are also some Congressional race options that are ever evolving. Becoming a postcard-writing volunteer involves sending a sample postcard to prove we’re not bots and then we can begin requesting addresses (each volunteer supplies the postcards and stamps). If we are already a registered volunteer, we can email, text, or Slack for addresses and instructions. Let’s get involved! If we're looking for a wider range of races, we can find a frequently-updated master list of postcard opportunities here. (Please note that there are specific needs for Vietnamese and Korean language speakers on the master!)Â
KNOW VOTERS WHO LIVE ABROAD?
Remind your American friends, family members and colleagues who live overseas to request their absentee ballot at Homepage | Vote From Abroad. Have them ask for their ballot to be delivered by email and have them check their state’s deadline. The DNC and private donors are putting more than $450,000 into a GOTV campaign aimed at reaching Americans from swing states who are living abroad and who are very important to this election.  Let’s help get the word out about this resource. There's also specific guidance for students studying abroad on how to get absentee ballots here.  (h/t CFAA)Â
LET’S CHECK OUR VOTE-BY-MAIL STATUS
If we’re planning to vote by mail this year, let’s not make assumptions. This race is too close for unpleasant surprises. Let’s make sure that we’re ready and able to do so. We can look up the status of our mail-in ballot application by consulting this tool from Vote.org. This tool will also come in handy later, when we want to track our ballot!
CALLING NEVADANS FOR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS
As this tool from 538 clearly illustrates, Nevada’s six electoral votes will make a huge difference in determining who is inaugurated in January. And that’s not the only major race on the ballot. Nevadans are also considering Question Six, which if passed would establish a state constitutional right to an abortion. If pro-choice voters turn out for this measure, we can secure this basic right in the Silver State… and maybe the presidential election too. MoveOn is hosting its next abortion access phone bank into Nevada at 8PM ET this Tuesday. Let’s sign up here (can't hyperlink on mobile, link is if we can, and look for other opportunities to help this cause with Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom if we’re not available.
