POLITICAL MESSAGING WHEN TALKING WITH VOTERS
During these last weeks when we are engaging potential voters, framing our messaging effectively is essential. “Framing can be simple. It’s about getting people to see the same thing from a different point of view, one based on our values.” Antonia Scatton is an expert in messaging and framing and her Substack Reframing America helps us do just that. ADVOCATE FOR STATE BALLOT INITIATIVES TO PROTECT REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS
Eight states have abortion related initiatives that will definitely be on the 2024 ballot: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, New York, and South Dakota. Two additional states: Nebraska, and Montana are still in the process of getting their initiatives approved. Unfortunately, the Arkansas Supreme Court recently rejected the initiative that would have been on their ballot in November. We can use this handy tracker and information page from KFF, a non-profit organization concerned with national health issues, helps us understand how abortion access can be controlled at the state level. We can read about the specific ballot questions and what each state is proposing here. Protecting reproductive rights has been shown to be a winning issue at the polls, but we need to do everything we can to get voters out. Let’s check out the groups that are spearheading each of these initiatives (as hyperlinked above) to see how we can donate or volunteer to help their efforts.
