DANGER AND OPPORTUNITY IN NORTH CAROLINA
CNN broke yet another story yesterday about horrific and hateful acts by North Carolina’s Republican gubernatorial nominee Mark Robinson, documenting comments he made on a pornography forum declaring himself a Nazi and expressing support for reinstating slavery. Robinson has already driven away voters in droves with his long and growing history of endorsing political violence; spreading conspiracy theories and hate against gay and transgender people, Jews and Muslims; extreme views against abortion and the separation of church and state; mocking school shooting survivors; disparaging the Civil Rights Movement and much more. He’s one of multiple GOP nominees for statewide office who cannot be trusted with power, including their nominee for attorney general Dan Bishop, a Trump coup co-conspirator, and state superintendent of schools candidate Michele Morrow, a January 6th participant who has called for the execution of prominent Democrats, claims public schools are “socialism centers” and “indoctrination centers;” wants to cut off federal funding for the state’s schools and just this week spread the lie that the LGBTQIA community supports pedophilia. The danger of electing these extremists is clear, and the opportunity their repulsive behavior provides is huge. Their scandals and abhorrent views have damaged them with the electorate and are dragging down the whole ticket – putting VP Harris and Donald Trump in a dead heat. Not only can we defeat these candidates and send a clear signal that this swing state rejects their movement, we can break the GOP supermajority in the state legislature, protect a crucial seat on the state supreme court, and flip the state’s electoral votes and effectively lock Donald Trump out of the White House. THE STARS AT NIGHT ARE BIG AND… BLUE?
While Ted Cruz leads the fight against protecting IVF in the Senate, we’re getting more signs he’s in trouble in his reelection campaign. Multiple polls indicate an unexpectedly narrow and tightening race between Cruz and Rep. Colin Allred, with the latest from Morning Consult being the first to show the Democrat in the lead. While beating Cruz remains a long shot, in a tough Senate map this is an opportunity to go on offense we can’t ignore. Reclaim Our Vote is writing to Black voters in NC, as well as GA, VA, SC, AL, FL, and TX who are not contacted by either party. 500k more cards need to go to NC alone.
