POSTCARDS TO VOTERS IS WRITING FOR TWO CONGRESSIONAL ELECTIONS
With two months until the election, Postcards To Voters is out of the gate with two Congressional races in the Midwest: Kristen McDonald Rivet in the Michigan 8th and Tony Vargas in the Nebraska 2nd. Becoming a postcard-writing volunteer involves sending a sample postcard to prove we’re not bots and then we can begin requesting addresses (each volunteer supplies the postcards and stamps). If we are already a registered volunteer, we can email, text, or Slack for addresses and instructions. Let’s get involved! Click here for more information.

ACTIVISM FOR INTROVERTS (AND EXTROVERTS, TOO)
In American presidential elections, the winner is the one who gets 270 or more Electoral College votes. In most states, the candidate who wins the state’s popular vote wins 100% of its electoral votes. That’s why presidential candidates do so much campaigning in “swing” states like AZ, GA, MI, NC, NV, PA, WI, where polls suggest that the popular vote is nearly tied. In states like these, a few thousand votes—less than a percentage point—can tip the entire election. Vote Forward’s voter-to-voter letter-writing campaigns have been shown to increase voter turnout by 0.8 to 3.4 percentage points in swing elections. And because Vote Forward targets people of color, women, young voters, and likely Democratic voters, that increased turnout will boost Harris-Walz. We download and print Vote Forward’s form letters directly from their website, and we personalize them with our own heartfelt messages. VF is perfect for introverts who can’t bring themselves to make phone calls or knock on doors. Here’s an example of a VF letter written by a Rogan’s List contributor—let’s take a look. Let’s also take a look at this how-to video, and then let’s sign up and help reach 10 million voters in swing elections this year!
EARLY VOTING
Early voting is becoming more popular as more people start using this option. There are many advantages, including increased flexibility, ability to track ballots, less crowded, etc. In addition, when regular Democrat voters vote early, we fall off the lists to be contacted. Then campaigns and volunteers can focus on infrequent voters sooner. Because we can work smarter and save money, we can reach more infrequent voters and increase the vote. Let’s use Vote Early Day to see how we can amplify this information and to check and see if/when we can start voting early in our state. Then let’s mark our calendars.
LINK CORRECTION: VOTING TO END FORCED LABOR IN OUR PRISON SYSTEM
The authors of the 13th Amendment left a loophole, allowing slavery to be imposed as punishment for a crime and giving constitutional sanction to convict leasing and our abusive prison labor system. Advocates for justice are pushing to end this exception at both the federal and the state level, finally competing the work of abolition and providing an opening for crucial reforms to extend worker protections to incarcerated persons. In the last three cycles, Colorado, Nebraska, Utah, Alabama, Oregon, Tennessee and Vermont have passed abolition ballot measures, and we have more opportunities this November. Voters in both California and Nevada will have a chance to amend their state constitutions to bar slavery from being used as a punishment for a crime. We can take part in this fight for freedom and against the multi-billion dollar prison-industrial complex! Let’s help out by donating to or volunteering with:· CALIFORNIA: Yes on Prop 6, End Slavery in California
· NEVADA: ACLU of Nevada
· NATIONAL: Abolish Slavery National Network
