GET MARY PELTOLA BACK TO CAPITOL HILL
Another strong candidate for flipping a GOP seat and with it the Senate is campaigning in the Last Frontier. Former U.S. Representative Mary Peltola has been consistently polling ahead of incumbent Republican Dan Sullivan in Alaska, and she’s already built up a team of 4,500 volunteers to reach folks across 120 communities in the state. She’s been running hard on her affordability agenda, including restoring the expanded child tax credit, limits on price gouging, hedge funds gobbling up homes and corporate mergers, and tax cuts for renters and child care facilities, and has endorsed key anti-corruption measures like a congressional stock trade ban and a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.
Her team will be running phonebanks at least twice a week through the election, and for those of us who are up later in the lower 48 it’s a great opportunity to help out! ☎️ Let’s sign up to make calls for Mary Peltola on Thursdays from 10PM-12AM ET and Saturdays from 6PM-8PM ET here. ☎️
VISIBILITY EVENTS ON D-DAY AND MORE UPCOMING ACTIONS
We’re all in for another national day of action with the De-ICE Citizens Bank Coalition next Saturday, June 6th, with more than 100 protests scheduled at Citizens Bank branches across the country aiming to pressure them to end their financial relationships with the concentration camp operators. 🪧 We can find events to join near us here! 🪧
But if we’re not near a Citizens, we’ve got more options to be part of coordinated events next weekend! Visibility Brigade will be honoring the anniversary of D-Day with standouts on overpasses across the country. They’re doing physical messaging in the real world about the crisis we face, a small but concrete reminder that we’re in trouble and people are willing to put their bodies on the line to resist. 🪧 We can find groups near us to join next Saturday here. 🪧
Later in the month, the No Kings coalition has announced counter-programming to Trump’s birthday UFC cage fight at our expense. They’re asking folks to host strategic community gatherings on the evening of June 14th, bringing together folks from our neighborhoods to talk about organizing in our area and connect everyone to local actions we can take – along with watching a concert in celebration of a First Amendment. 🪧 We can sign up to host one of these events in our community here. 🪧
LEARNING HOW TO EXERCISE POWER AS A RENTER
A tenants union in Bozeman just won critical infrastructure improvements from their new landlord thanks to a rent strike. They’re into their fifth month of a strike in Brooklyn, and their fellow organizers are on the march from Providence to the Hudson Valley to Milwaukee. We’re seeing a surge of tenant power building like we haven’t in years in the United States. Let’s learn how we can be part of it.
🏫 This Sunday at 1PM ET, historian Dr. Lucas Poy will be hosting a presentation on the history of rent strikes and tenant action across the world. We can sign up to join in here and download a book he’s published here. 🏫
🏫 We also have until June 15th to apply for the Tenant Union Federation’s Union School, an intensive training course on the work of organizing. They’re holding their next info session for applicants on Tuesday at 7PM ET – we can sign up here. 🏫
PUTTING TOGETHER A DIRECT ACTION
We have, in crucial ways, been failed by our institutions in the Trump era. And while a large part of our work is in pushing those institutions to do better and changing them so that they can, a central pillar of the resistance will be working outside of them. Some of the most powerful resistance of the last decade has been in direct action, everything from mutual aid in Minneapolis to blocking highways in South Memphis, and with Trump and the billionaires committed to dragging our country backwards we should all be considering how we might build on what they’ve done.
⚙️ CrimethInc has put together a step-by-step guide to direct action, helping us think concretely about how it works and how we can execute it. Let’s check it out here and consider putting its recommendations to use. ⚙️
FOR FOLKS WHO ARE READY TO LEAVE MAGA
With Trump’s approval ratings surpassing post-January 6th lows and dropping under 80% even among his 2024 voters, now is a good time to make sure we’re prepared to help folks exit his movement.
Leaving MAGA was founded “to create a safe, non-judgmental community for those who leave MAGA, as well as for those who are having doubts about, or remorse over, their devotion to Trump and MAGA.” It helps them make the transition out of the cult, tell their stories, reconcile with friends and family and develop leaders to help others leave. ⚙️ If we have a friend or loved one who, like the website’s founder, is having second thoughts and is looking for a non-judgmental way out, let’s check out what they have to offer here. ⚙️
THIS WEEK’S JUDGES TO THANK
Facing threats, political pressure and a Supreme Court majority that has frequently not had their backs, lower court judges are still doing vitally important work to keep this administration’s power within the bounds of the law. Let’s acknowledge their work and send encouragement to keep fighting.
Federal judge Waverly Crenshaw has dismissed the criminal charges against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, finding that he has been subject to vindictive prosecution by the Department of Justice. ✍🏼 Let’s write a note or postcard to thank Judge Crenshaw for refusing to allow the government’s false claims against Garcia to result in the punishment of an innocent man. ✍🏼

Federal judge Richard Boulware has blocked 25 detainees from being transferred out of Nevada until inquiries into whether they had received bond hearings before being detained had been completed. ✍🏼 Let’s write a note or postcard to thank Judge Boulware for insisting on due process for detained immigrants, rather than allowing ICE to continue violating their rights by denying them access to attorneys, hearings, and bond as they have been routinely doing. ✍🏼

Federal judge Indira Talwani ordered the release from custody of a Brazilian man, Rogerio da Silva Lima, and his 15-year-old son, Nycolas Al Varenga Lima, who were out fishing near Martha’s Vineyard when they were detained by ICE. The deportation case against them has not been blocked but they must be released from custody. ✍🏼 Let’s write a note or postcard to thank Judge Talwani for getting this father and son out of jail while they await due process in their case. ✍🏼
