The Moms For Liberty event in Philadelphia is beyond bizarre. It is happening at the exact same time, and in the same hotel, as the annual convention of the Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs, or FJMC. I am a leader in FJMC. Our group booked the hotel first. Why or how Marriott scheduled a group antithetical to our interests is beyond comprehension. Our convention will proceed, but has been significantly damaged by the conflict. Both groups will share the same main ballroom, separated by a curtain. What promised to be a positive and cherished experience for the men of Conservative Judaism will now surely be different. I am praying for peace, safety and security inside the hotel - and outside. The protest groups in the streets of Philly won't be able to distinguish good guys from bad guys, unless we choose to wear Jewish kippot (yarmulkes), and that could very well be a dangerous activity - if pro MAGA groups show up as well. The area around the Marriott will be a tempest. I have chosen to not attend my convention, in the interest of personal safety. It is a gross shame.
