🤳🏽 SAY NO TO DEPRIVING AMERICAN CHILDREN OF THE CHILD TAX CREDIT 🤳🏽
Yet another terrible provision of the MAGA murder budget: it would make “permanent a policy that excludes one million children without Social Security numbers from the child tax credit” and would exclude some 4.5 million children who are US citizens but have an immigrant parent without a Social Security number. And it goes even further, lowering the cap on the refundable portion of the child tax credit from $1700 to $1400 - meaning even more children from low-income households are left out because their families don’t make enough money to claim it. In total, 17 million kids will go without. (Under Biden’s American Rescue Plan, the child tax credit was fully refundable.)
We can find state and district numbers on the 17 million kids whose parents are too poor to get this tax credit here and on the U.S. citizen children being excluded for having undocumented parents here. Let’s tell our members of Congress, regardless of party, that we expect them to ensure that all children receive the poverty-fighting benefits of the child tax credit.
We also find more information about this big billionaire bailout and more ways to fight it on the Rogan’s List action page here. The SEIU, Indivisible, and the Medicaid Defenders all have phonebanks to constituents of potential swing votes scheduled today we can join!
✈️ EXPOSE THE DETENTION CAMPS THIS RECESS ✈️
Congress is on recess this week, which means they’ve got time to do some traveling. Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-MD) has taken advantage of this opportunity to try to reach one of his constituents, journeying to our outsourced concentration camp in El Salvador to see Kilmar Abrego Garcia. The congressman was denied access to Kilmar, husband and father of American citizens, duly employed union sheet metal apprentice and 14-year resident of the United States without a criminal record, who remains illegally imprisoned without due process. But Ivey successfully refocused attention on his unjust abduction.
Our elected officials don’t have to fly international to push for decent treatment for immigrants in detention, either. We’ve had plenty of terrible reports right here at home, such as Iris Dayana Monterroso-Lemus being denied medical care at the Richwood Correctional Center in Louisiana and then losing a mid-term pregnancy. And it’s a crucial time for members of Congress to exercise their legal authority to inspect federal immigration facilities after the arrest of Rep. LaMonica McIver for doing just that.
Let’s take a moment to send a brief note thanking Rep. Ivey for putting the spotlight back on the injustice Kilmar continues to suffer. We can also contact our own members of Congress (scripts/language here) and urge them to make their own trips to El Salvador and take concrete action to secure his freedom – as the courts have ordered.
Further, we can join Public Citizen in demanding our reps conduct an inspection of a domestic federal detention facility during this recess (language/petition here), and push them to do more to show solidarity with Rep. McIver (language/Resistbot here).
☎️ OPPOSE A FEDERAL CONCEALED CARRY MANDATE ☎️
The MAGA Republican-sponsored Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is gaining momentum. It passed the House Judiciary Committee in March and last week two dozen Republican state attorneys general urged the full House to act on it. This legislation would, if signed into law, require states to “allow anyone who can carry a concealed handgun in their state of residence to carry a concealed handgun in any state—even if the non-state of residency’s laws prohibit the person from possessing a firearm at all.”
Everytown for Gun Safety warns that states would be forced to “allow violent offenders and people with no firearm safety training to carry hidden, loaded handguns within its borders.” Jewish Women International points out the bill would empower domestic abusers. Let’s tell our Members of Congress that we expect them to stop this terrible bill from becoming law, and ask them to block the passage of H.R.38 and S.65. We can find language and an email tool from Everytown here.
💻 LEARN ABOUT PUSH FOR NATIONWIDE ABORTION PILL BAN, VIRTUAL MEETING TOMORROW 💻
A dangerous new plan called “Rolling Thunder” is quietly threatening access to abortion nationwide — even in states where it’s still legal. Spearheaded by anti-abortion extremists, this strategy could ban nearly two-thirds of all abortions by targeting mifepristone, the safe and commonly used abortion pill. As we covered last week, Trump’s Health and Human Services Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has ordered a “full review” of the pill through Trump’s FDA, using misinformation from a far-right group that falsely claims mifepristone is unsafe — even though it’s proven to be safer than Tylenol.
This coordinated campaign could result in mifepristone being pulled from the market entirely, with devastating impact. That’s why it’s urgent to take action now. We can join Kirsten Moore from the Expanding Medication Abortion Access (EMAA) Project TOMORROW, May 29th at 7:30PM ET, to learn more about the plan and how we can fight back. Sign up here for this critical conversation from Red, Wine, and Blue!
We can also find scripts and sample language here to urge our members of Congress to support effforts to make sure mifepristone remains legal and available, or send this Resistbot message by texting SIGN PGKRDE to 50409.
🔨 REAL-TIME TRACKING FOR GOVERNMENT SPENDING 🔨
The Trump administration’s conduct and statements with regard to spending freezes and impoundment, including the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) activities, have created uncertainty as to whether or not funding is flowing through Treasury’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service to particular programs, agencies, and departments in accordance with the law. The Hamilton Project has created a data tool that allows users to track the flow of federal funds in real time - a continually updated resource useful to journalists, activists, and scholars. Let’s check it out here and share it with our networks.

Your Keeping an Eye 👀 on seems a bit longer this morning. I take that as a good thing.
Every movement needs a symbol.
A symbol shows unity.
Absent unity, our movement will collapse.
So, on June 14 = Flag Day = No Kings Day, fly the upside-down flag.
Show we are united against autocracy.
Here is why:
