⚖️ JUDGES STEP IN ON TRUMP’S TARIFFS ⚖️
While Trump tries to stack the courts with anti-constitutional political cronies and strip them of their power, a number of federal judges have plainly illustrated why he’s so desperate, with two different courts ruling he misused emergency powers to impose many of his tariffs and striking them down. (The White House is appealing these decisions, and at least one ruling has been temporarily stayed. The sector-specific tariffs on cars, steel and aluminum were put in place under different authority and will continue to raise our prices.)
Predictably, MAGA is once again screaming about judges overturning the popular will. It is crucial to remember: there is nothing stopping them from putting these tariffs back in action completely legally. One clearly permissible way? Going through Congress.
Let’s take this moment to reach out to our members of Congress and tell them it’s time to put Trump’s claims to the test. If these tariffs are really the will of the people, they should bring them to the floor and vote on them. We can find scripts and language here.
🪧 VISIBILITY BRIGADE WILL TAKE NATIONAL ACTION THIS WEEKEND 🪧
The Visibility Brigade comes together on overpasses and other public spaces to provide physical messaging in the real world about the crisis we face, a small but concrete reminder that we’re in trouble and people are willing to put their bodies on the line to resist. They have chapters in 29 states, and this weekend they are conducting their first nationwide coordinated action! Let’s consider joining them. We can find a group near us here or set up our own! We can check out their toolkit, gather a few people, register our action here and hit the streets to spread the message! (h/t )
🫱🏻🫲🏿 GET TRAINED IN NONVIOLENT RESISTANCE TO DICTATORS SUNDAY 🫱🏾🫲🏼
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), previous chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, is offering free activism training through her Resistance Lab. This series of online sessions gives practical lessons in effective, meaningful, nonviolent protest. The lessons draw on time-tested principles from Martin Luther King, Jr. and global movements that successfully fought authoritarians. Let's sign up for the next introductory session THIS SUNDAY at 2PM Eastern. We can bring our friends and family members and be even stronger in our work to stop Trump.
💲 TARGET FAST ORGANIZERS TURN TO NEW TARGET: DOLLAR GENERAL 💲
The pushback against corporations abandoning diversity, equity and inclusion commitments has been fierce, and it’s making a difference. In the wake of the Target Fast boycott, the company’s stock, sales and foot traffic at their stores have all noticeably declined. Lead organizer Pastor Jamal Bryant is now asking supporters to take on a new company even as they continue refusing to shop at Target, calling on supporters to start an electronic protest of Dollar General over their DEI walkbacks and failure to invest in the communities that make up the bulk of their customer base. Instead of a full boycott that would be impossible for many without access to other stores for groceries, activists are clogging the retailer’s phone lines and email and pressuring them on social media. Let’s join in turning up the heat on Dollar General. We can find contact information and more details on demands here.
🎭 SUPPORTING BLACK ARTISTS 🎭
With the Trump regime banning DEI and further defunding the arts, artists of color have been particularly affected. Black Theatre Matters has created a directory of over 70 Black theatre-related groups we can support in six different categories: producing companies, presenting organizations, ensembles, play festivals, writers’ groups and solo artists. And the list is still being built! Let's show our support by going to a show, or in some other ways outlined on this website.
