If Nancy Mace has proposed to ban transgender women from women’s bathrooms on all federal property, presumably her legislation is written to require a person to use the bathroom of their assigned gender at birth.
So … am I right in concluding that such a law would require a woman - albeit a trans woman - to use the men’s bathroom?
Do you think men would have a problem with that?
And presumably such a law would require transgender men to use the ladies bathroom. Does Nancy Mace accept that?
I had heard that some places have co-ed bathrooms. I’ve heard that some men and some women are not bothered by that.
But has Mace thought this through? Is this a punishment? Who is being punished … or made to feel uncomfortable? Not McBride, whose response was perfect: No big deal; Congress has more important priorities.
On the other hand, perhaps this legislation will have an unintended consequence — ushering in a new future where everyone will get used to coed bathrooms!
When they first started doing these bathroom bills a decade ago, you had a number of trans men posting mirror selfies asking if they looked like they belonged in a woman's bathroom. It had a real impact.
I do worry a lot for the trans women forced to use the men's room. A history of danger there.
I just contacted representative Kim Schrier to urge her to vote against HR 9495. I called the DC office and of course was asked about my ZIP Code. I live in Washington State where she is a representative, but I am outside her district. That is one of the frustrations of attempting to reach out to representatives. I tried emailing her and that was rejected because of my ZIP Code. I made the call and explained that this was a national issue and that I was a citizen of Washington and of the United States and that this affected me. I don’t know how much difference it makes when we are not voters in their district so I also mentioned that I have been a longtime supporter, which is also true. I doubt that matters either, but these are desperate times.

Thanks! Every one of these is an important issue. How asleep or zombie-fied can the American people be that there isn’t more outrage? Obey in advance?
I think the firehose of wrong is wearing on people, Susan
